BMW Plans on Showcasing the Concept X4 at the Shanghai Motor Show This April
|   Thursday, April 18, 2013
BMW has revealed the first official images of the next generation X4 Concept which is to be showcased at the Shanghai Motor Show later in April. Tagged the Concept X4, the design and styling elements of this vehicle have been borrowed extensively from the last generation BMW X6. Both the vehicles are somewhat similar in their proportions while sharing similar silhouettes. The front and rear bumpers are similar while the high waistline, roof line, rear vertical rear, shallow glass line and large wheel houses enhance the vehicle's image as an SUV.

BMW is focusing extensively on the Chinese market for the high SUV sales and the growing Chinese market accounted for a major part of BMW's profit for the fiscal year of 2011- 2012. The company plans on reliving the situations this year as well and sufficient planning and strategies are being made to make things possible.

The Concept X4 was styled under the supervision of BMW Chief Designer Karim Habib and the designing team worked together to combine the best of the visual aesthetics of a classic BMW with the visual aesthetics of a stout off road SUV that BMW is famous for making. This styling trend will be visible in most future X Series SUVs from BMW, the design team has confirmed.

However, certain aspects of the designing theme of the Concept X4 will be altered before the vehicle is sent to production. However, details of the modifications have not been made public as of yet. Although the head lamps, door knobs, front bumper and graphics could be modified. The rear side window is set to receive an additional quarter window lifted off the X6 and the idea behind designing a vehicle based on the X6 was conceived by the demand of the X6.

The X4 could be priced £3000 above the X3 SUV and this speculation comes in as BMW has not confirmed an estimated price for the X4. An optional X4 xDrive20d could be a limited edition counterpart of the X4 and this vehicle is estimated to be priced close to £35,000. The dimensions of the X4 Concept are 4648 x 1622 x 1915 mm (length x breadth x height) and the dimensions are almost similar to that of the X6.

BMW is yet to confirm the interior setup of the X4 and it is expected to be a major reason behind the high price of the vehicle. The vehicle could feature a five seated version, although a seven seated version has been confirmed. There should be no issues regarding the quality of the parts as standard BMW equipments will be used as usual.

BMW is making preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show and the vehicle will feature two engine options – four and six cylinder 2.0 and 3.0 liter petrol versions. All engine options are mated to an eight speed automatic transmission system which works towards enhancing power displacement. A maximum of 306 BHP is displaced by the highest level turbo charged diesel engine.
