BMW Plans on Sending the I Series vehicles to Mass Production
|   Monday, March 25, 2013
It has been three years since BMW first announced the launch of the future vehicles better known as the majesty vehicles. The first of which – the hybrid BMW i8 Sports car and the i3 electric vehicle – was launched last year. The BMW "I" range is expected to take BMW to the next stage of motoring and efficiency using a combination of lightweight design and frugal technology.

BMW's idea regarding an electric vehicle was first showcased on the Mini E and the recently unveiled BMW 1 Series Active E.
Both the vehicles have been closely monitored by the engineers and developing team and detailed analysis has been made to confirm that the vehicles deliver on their promise. The vehicles have undergone close to 10 Million miles of testing and BMW claims that the average person uses a vehicle to travel close to 26 miles daily.

However, the most significant changes in the automotive world have been the smart designing of the vehicles and the innovative exterior and interior features. The i3 city car and the i8 sports car were initially concept vehicles but BMW decided to launch prototypes of both vehicles. The vehicles feature a carbon fiber body and weight reduction measures have been followed where ever possible.

While the BMW i3 uses an all electric power train, the i8 uses a petrol electric hybrid power train. BMW plans on launching the "I" series vehicles on a commercial basis as an alternate option to traditional vehicles. The i3 is the perfect vehicle for urban usage and retains high fuel efficiency and while emitting lesser amounts of CO2. Tests are being conducted on both the vehicles and BMW wants every minor detail to be carved to perfection before the vehicles are launched on a commercial basis.

The mechanical components of the vehicles are different than traditional vehicles and as a result infrastructure need to be developed in order to support the new vehicles. Moreover, people need to be habituated to the advanced controls of the vehicles and BMW claims that traction control and stability of the vehicles are incredible.

Road tests are awaited and positive results are expected. BMW has not made the prototype available to the public and BMW has not announced a specific date for the launch as well. The "I" series is the perfect example of German engineering and BMW has done a great job designing the vehicle. While the i8 has been designed for the performance lovers, the i3 is for the general people who use their vehicles daily.

The hatchback design has been conceived and is primarily suited to urban driving. The vehicle could challenge the Mini Cooper in its own segment and is a serious threat to the British engineered cars. The advanced lithium ion battery used in the vehicles has been designed for high usage and optimum power delivery. As of now BMW is allowing segregated people to test drive the "I" series vehicles, however it is expected that the company will revert its policy soon.
