BMW Officially Unveils the 4 Series Coupe
|   Wednesday, June 26, 2013
The BMW 4 Series Coupe is officially here. The 4 Series Coupe is the direct descendent of the much celebrated BMW 3 Series Coupe and is a direct competitor to the Mercedes Benz C Class Coupe and the Audi A5. The BMW 4 Series is set to make an official debut this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will go on sale in the UK by October 2013. The entry level 420d SE sports a price tag of £31,575 and will be the first variant to be launched.

The 420d SE will feature three turbo charged engine options initially along with three forced induction engines to be added to the segment later.
BMW will also add the option of four wheel drive or rear wheel drive sometime next year. BMW is currently offering three trim levels on the vehicle, namely M Sport, Luxury, Modern, Sport and SE.

The BMW 4 Series Concept was first showcased at the Detroit Motor Show this January and is based on the same platform as that of its predecessor. Changes have however been made to the chassis while the suspension has been reduced. The 420d SE also has the lowest center of gravity on any vehicle from BMW on the roads till date.

The increase in the overall dimensions however increases the weight of the vehicle by a margin and this could take a toll on the handling. This cannot be confirmed at the moment as the vehicle is not available for test drives. Standard rear wheel drive is provided on all the cars at the moment and this will be available even after the all wheel drive alternative is introduced. Every engine is mated to an eight speed automatic transmission system which further enhances performance.

BMW is claiming that the 4 Series is one of the most aerodynamic and ergonomic vehicles in its range and have features the best accessories and settings which make it one of the most potent sports car in its range. The axle, dampers, springs and camber bridges have been modified to enhance agility which makes the 420d SE a very fun to drive vehicle.

The 4 Series is heavily based on the outgoing 3 Series and some of the most prominent designing trends include the front grille and the long frameless doors. The center console, dash board and the instrument cluster is also directly lifted off the 3 Series Coupe. The ride height has however been lowered and this aids precision handling and to increase the down force of the ride.

Boot space has however been increased by a mere five liters although it increases the head and leg room by a portion. The standard model of the 420d SE includes a 6.5 inch color monitor along with the BMW iDrive controller. Standard 18 inch rims are also available on every variant except for the SE. The M Sports trim is expected to be of the best quality and this variant features adaptive dampers which further enhance comfort and handling.
