BMW M6 GT3 Debut At BMW Plant In Dingolfing
|   Thursday, February 19, 2015
The tests circuit of the BMW plant in Dingolfing (Germany) was the scene for the first appearance of the BMW M6 GT3. With this model BMW teams will compete in national and international competitions as well as in the legendary endurance race starting in 2016.

For the first time, the car left the stands at 14.00, and behind the wheel was Jörg Müller (Germany). The officially driver of BMW, he had the honor of creating the next milestone in the BMW M6 GT3 development.

"This is a big moment for everyone who has worked so intensely and passionately on the development of the BMW M6 GT3 in recent months. This car incorporates all the experience we have gained in recent years on the endurance and GT racing circuits. We are well on schedule with the development, and are confident we will be able to take to the track in 2016 with a package that is competitive from the outset. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved with this fantastic project" stated BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

The development process of the GT3 BMW M6 is going according to plan. The model is powered by a V8 series engine, displacing 4.4 liters and equipped with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which has undergone a number of changes to be used on circuits. It has dry sump lubrication and generates more than 500 horsepower, with a total weight of the car less than 1,300 kilograms.

Other features of the BMW M6 GT3 are the transaxle propulsion concept, sequential six-speed transmission, and the power electronics specific to motorsports. The chassis' aerodynamic properties have been optimized in the BMW wind tunnel.

The BMW M6 Coupe offers the ideal base which was used by the BMW Motorsport engineers. Thus, they worked meticulously in order to make sure the BMW M6 GT3 can be used in motorsport. The priority was to ensure the highest degree of safety for pilots.

In order for BMW M6 GT3 pilots to benefit from the maximum protection possible, BMW Motorsport has developed and produced its own security cell, according to FIA standards that meet the latest safety standards. Also, the engineers have focused on efficiency, ease of maintenance and reliability, very important qualities in the classic 24 hours races.

The BMW M6 GT3 model features additional vents in the rear quarter panels, along with side exhausts and a substantially lowered ride height compared to a regular M6.
Jörg Müller was happy with the ride saying that "It is a fantastic moment when you walk into the garage and see this stunningly beautiful car. I am very proud to have taken it out for its first few kilometers. A roll-out is obviously just an initial performance test but, on the whole, everything was very good and we had no problems. The engine really impressed me. It is powerful and has good torque, which is important for a car like this. I am confident that BMW Motorsport will provide its customers with a fantastic racing car, in the BMW M6 GT3."
