BMW announced the changes they will make to the future engine range in order to improve fuel consumption and to reduce emissions so BMW's Efficient Dynamics system updates will be found in future engines next year.

The German giant BMW announced a series of significant changes in its range of engines. Units of three and four cylinders (petrol and diesel engines) will consume less and, implicitly, have lower emissions.

After the Dieselgate scandal, stricter rules on pollution and harmful emissions will be imposed so that engines would consume less fuel and comply with the rules in force.

To meet those standards, BMW is preparing more changes in their range of engines. Efficient Dynamics system updates will be found in future engines starting with 2017 and will be designed for both transverse and longitudinal installation.

These improved engines will be provided to both models BMW and the Mini range and the first candidate is most likely the future 2017 BMW 5-Series. Regarding the 7th generation BMW 5-Series, its official debut is expected next year and Germans promise a 5% reduction in emissions, 7 extra horsepower and extra 20 Nm torque.

Three-cylinder gasoline engines will deliver 95 horsepower and 220nm torque and also there is a version of 115 hp and 270 Nm.
The four-cylinder engine will be more powerful, as follows: the basic version will have 150 HP and 340 Nm of torque, the middle configuration means 190 HP and 400 Nm and the top of the range will be capable of reaching 231 hp and 450 of torque.

Engineers in Munich have also implemented TwinPower Turbo technology with direct injection, Valvetronic and Double VANOS, and the cooling system has been optimized too.

Moreover, for the diesel versions, the emissions will be reduced by 5%, and all four-cylinder engines now feature two turbines. In addition, both the three and four-cylinder get new gas recirculation systems (EGR), selective catalytic reduction technology and AdBlue.

The common-rail fuel supply new diesel engine has been redesigned and now receives new fuel injectors and the pressure will get to 2200 bar for the three-cylinder engines and 2700 for the four-cylinder.
