BMW Is Preparing A New Electrical Fast Charging System
|   Sunday, March 30, 2014
BMW is working on a new electric vehicle charging system designed from the start to reduce loading time to the minimum possible for the current battery technology. The Germans are preparing a system to run through the continuous current technology that is able to reduce load times from a few hours to a few minutes, says Weiland Bruch, Head of Department of Communication for the i range from BMW. Up to this day, the charging systems of electric vehicles operate on alternating current.

The representative of the i division from BMW promised to come back with an official statement in this sense, in which information about the production of i3 announced. The waiting list for the first electric car series ever offered by the German manufacturer has already reached six months before the launch in the United States.

At present, BMW constructs 70 i3 units per day at its factory in Leipzig.
One of the reasons that the electric BMW i3 is produced so few units per day is the fact that it is the first car that uses carbon fiber (CFRP) in series production. The entire body is made of this material in order to compensate the weight of the batteries used by the electrical system.

Approximately 400 million euros were invested in upgrading the Leipzig plant, where they created another 800 jobs. If, however, we refer to the entire i assembly line the figures grows up to 600 million euro and 1,500 jobs.

In November 2013, BMW announced that a year's production of BMW i8 was already booked by customers.

The announcement was made by Ian Robertson, BMW's head of sales, and came after BMW representative confirmed 10,000 preorders for the i3, their first electric model. Unlike the related announcement of i3, those from BMW did not specify how many BMW i8 units will be produced in a year and how many units have already been ordered.

The max autonomy figure of the BMW i3 in electric mode is 170 kilometers. The fast charge systems of electric vehicles require special connectors designed to withstand the additional load to which they are subjected.

The BMW i3 is an electric vehicle with system expansion autonomy. That means that power is provided entirely by the electric motor, developing 170 hp and 250 Nm, but the batteries can be charged by an internal combustion engine too. The internal combustion engine makes 34 hp.
Models equipped with this system will gain a range of up to 300 km.

Also, in addition to being compact, the electric motor weighs only 50 kilograms. It may reach a maximum of 11,400 revolutions per minute. The lithium-Ion battery is flat, has 12 modules and has a proper cooling and heating system to ensure that it is operating at normal temperature for as long as possible.

The car has several driving modes, two of which provide a significant improvements.
Unlike conventional BMWs, the i3 has two Eco Pro modes. Eco Pro mode coupling increases range by 20 km, and choosing the Eco Pro + brings a further increase of 20 km to range autonomy.
In turn, the internal combustion engine ups the total i3 autonomy to 300 kilometers.
