BMW Intently Working on the M4
|   Saturday, July 20, 2013
BMW knows that it is tough to please the purists and despite the fact they have gone forward to work on the first generation M4. The BMW M3 is formally out of production and the M4 will act as the replacement model. BMW is looking forward to building smaller and budget efficient cars for the next generation and the M4 fits the bill perfectly. It could be considered as an effective continuation of the M3.

The BMW M segment has evolved quite a lot over the past few decades and everything starting from the drive train to the chassis and upholstery has been changed at some point of time.
The M badge originally pointed out the performance cars of the range and the M3 is living proof of what these cars were capable of. The range of naturally aspirated engines were slowly replaced by turbo charged ones and this helped cut down on the size of the engine without having to compromise on performance or efficiency.

The BMW M3 is an iconic vehicle and even though the M5 and the M6 gained substantial popularity, it was nothing compared to the popularity of the M3. The use of light weight engineering on the M4 is good news for people who want BMW to design an ultimate performance car sporting the M badge.
Even though BMW has not officially commented on the performance issue, the M4 will not be a subtle ride considering the fact that it sports the M badge. The engine should be quite powerful while the latest eight speed automatic transmission system could do justice to the power development. However, BMW is tight-lipped about the project and no information could be pried out.

Insiders however claim that even though the M4 may not be the ultimate sports car which fans are looking for at the moment, but this car will have a sporty edge. The E92 M3 was the first vehicle to sport a performance specific engine and the cars post the era have a sporty edge to them. The M4 is bound to have a turbo charged engine even though BMW has not commented on the issue.

However, the market needs should propel the company to put in some speed in the car and this is possible only via a turbo charger. If rumors are to be trusted, the M4 could be powered by a 4.4 liter twin turbo charged engine displacing 560 BHP. The straight six cylinder engine has a massive fan following and this could be placed as the range topper.

The power to weight ratio should be high considering these general statistics and the M4 should have a general top speed in the 155- 175 MPH range. Torque figures or fuel efficiency cannot be commented on at the moment despite the available information. Initial track tests are highly awaited and the M4 should do considerably good on the freeway as well as on the race track. BMW is expected to officially comment on the M4 by the end of the year.
