BMW Increased Profits By 26 Percent Due To Strong Sales Growth
|   Thursday, August 21, 2014
The BMW Group increased its sales volume, with revenues and earnings in the second quarter and first half of 2014 continuing the brand's successful business development.

Corporation income increased in the second quarter by 1.8 percent, so it came to 19.905 billion euro (2013: 19.552 billion euro) for the three months period.
The total number of cars the BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce brands delivered to customers worldwide increased by 5.3 percent in the second quarter, a new record of 533,187 units being scored (in 2013 they had 506,321 units).

Group revenues for the first six months rose by 2.8 percent from last year to 38.140 billion euro (2013: 37.098 billion euro). And here the exchange factor reduced scale growth. EBIT rose by 14.4 percent to 4.693 billion euro (4.104 billion euro in 2013), while gross profit increased by 19.6 percent to 4.826 billion euro from 4.035 billion euro.

Net profit increased by 19.6 percent to 3.233 billion euro from 2.704 billion euro last year. BMW Group sales volume increased by 6.9 percent to 1,020,211 units in the first half of the year (in 2013 954,521 units were sold), making this the first time they sold over a million cars in the first half. With this performance, the BMW Group was able to maintain itself as a global leader among premium car companies.

BMW 3 Series sales performance in the first half of the year was at a similar level to that of last year totaling 236,289 units (down 0.6 percent from 2013's 237,700 units). It should be noted that the Coupe and Cabriolet versions are now positioned as part of the BMW 4 Series.

Overall, BMW 4 Series was sold in a volume of 47,031 units. The number of BMW 5 Series sold between January and June increased by 7.6 percent to 193,560 units. BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series were close to the levels recorded in the previous year at the end of the first six months of the year, with 13,734 units ( down by 2.0 percent) and with 26,378 units (a 2.7 percent drop).

The innovative BMW i3 electric car was delivered to a total of 5,396 customers during the first semester. This model is available in Japan and USA in the second quarter. Starting in October it will be sold in China too. It is expected that sales to increase further in the coming months once the car will become available in more countries around the world.

In the luxury segment, Rolls Royce saw worldwide sales increased by 28.6 percent to 1,071 units in the second quarter. Demand remains important for the Rolls-Royce Wraith. Also, the Ghost Series II, which will be available this fall, is already attracting significant interest from customers.

A major boost is expected to come from the 16 new and revised models that the BMW Group will launch this year. These include the 4 Series Gran Coupe, and the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, which have entered the market in June. The new BMW X4 and BMW X3 facelift version will be sold in July. In September the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW M4 Convertible will also be delivered to customers.
