BMW i8: Huge Success On UK Market - Waiting Lists Exceed 10 Months
|   Tuesday, August 26, 2014
Although the BMW i8 is the most expensive BMW model, the sporty hybrid brand manages to gather customers with money without trouble. In the United Kingdom, one of the most important markets for this type of cars, waiting list for the new BMW i8 have already exceeded 10 months, despite the fact that its starting price is 100,000 pounds.

Although its price may seem prohibitive the BMW i8 sport hybrid has enchanted fans of this type of car in the United Kingdom, which resulted in the 10 month long waiting lists.

According to BMW officials from the United Kingdom, the English not scared at all by quite large price tag the German model has and are fascinated by its performance and SF's look. They are ordering this model to the detriment of classical petrol models. One of the sales managers of BMW Park Lane in London, the biggest dealers in the United Kingdom, said to The Telegraph that this is the biggest hit landed by the Germans since he started with the brand. No fewer than 170 customers of this particular dealership have already ordered a BMW i8.

We remind you that the BMW i8 uses a propulsion system consisting of a turbocharged petrol unit displacing 1.5 liters with three cylinders plus a 96 kW electric motor. These figures allow the German model to achieve 0 to100 km / h in 4.4 seconds. Cumulative maximum output is 362 horsepower, and in full electric mode BMW i8 can travel a distance of up to 35 kilometers.

Thanks to this hybrid system, the official CO2 emissions numbers have dropped to 49 g / km, and qualify the BMW i8 for an exemption from London's congestion charge. In a quite unusual way, it was an important factor in the purchasing decision for London buyers, according to sales manager Peter Adams. "It's amazing the number of customers who said ‘we really don't want to pay it'," he said.

On the inside, we find it well-equipped with a high level of standard features like leather steering wheel and upholstery, plus an 8.8 inch multimedia display with Professional Navigation. 20-inch alloy wheels are also included.

In standard equipment, the BMW i8 comes with AC Charging that sees a 3.7 kW power charging unit refilling the model's battery from zero to 80 percent in two hours. An optional BMW i Wallbox is available to further reduce charging times.

The rush for this model was such the even before it was confirmed that the model would reach full production, deposits were taken from potential buyers. Moreover, industry analysts at IHS Automotive estimate that by next year, the BMW i8 will sell more in comparison with its rivals in Europe, claiming that over 1,700 models will find owners in the region in the coming year.

Audi will launch next year a new R8 supercar and McLaren will launch an entry-level supercar, which will cost around 120,000 pounds. IHS estimates that by 2016, R8 sales will exceed i8 sales and McLaren will not be far behind.
