BMW i3 Sold Over 2,000 Units In The First Quarter Of The Year
|   Saturday, May 10, 2014
The BMW i3, the first electric model of the brand from Munich, has had a successful first quarter with 2,022 units sold worldwide. The Bavarian brand announces that it expects its sales of BMW i3 to grow further as its electric model will be offered in several markets and can be produced in larger volumes.

According to official data, the sales of BMW i3, only in March this year, have amounted to almost 1,000 units, a sign that production of the model was not increased for no reason; almost 100 units were built every day since the plant in Leipzig has increased its output.

April promises to bring new records for the BMW i3 as the electric model began to be offered on the North America market too. Internal estimates say that the United States will be the largest market for the BMW i3, so that the Germans expect favorable results in this direction. Later, BMW will increase the number of markets the i3 model is available. Of course, this will happen as far as interest is manifested for their electric vehicle in other countries.

Once the announcement related to the BMW i3 was over, the representatives of the German group spoke about other results achieved in the first quarter. The Car Division of the corporations had a gross profit increase of 8.4 percent, totaling 1.64 billion euros. BMW sales have increased by 12.3 percent during that period, with models like the 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, and X5 being market leaders in the segments in which they operates, at least according to the company's data.
The basic version of the i3 is designed to be a 100 percent electric vehicle and can be charged from any outlet. There are versions equipped with an internal combustion engine as well, acting as a generator to extend its range.

In order to enter the United States market, the i3 is the first model from the BMW i range built from scratch, mostly from carbon fiber. With an engine making 170 hp and a torque of 184 lb-ft, the fully electric i3 gets its juice from a 22 kWh Li-Ion battery pack, or a 18.8 kWh one, which is good for 130 – 160 km (80-100 miles), or 135 km (84 miles), on EPA's testing grounds.

Regarding the MINI model, sales have fallen due to the fact that the deliveries of the new MINI generation started only in March, but the situation is expected to return to growth when many markets will receive the ordered units.

Rolls-Royce, the luxury brand owned by the Germans from BMW, still remains first in sales in its segment and records the fourth consecutive record in terms of sales and profit.

In the case of BMW‘s motorcycle division the company announced an 8.3 percent increase in sales in the first quarter, an increase of 26 percent of gross profit in the same period. This means 63 million euros, which represents the best quarterly performance in the history of the BMW motorcycle division.
