BMW Engineering Boss Looks Forward to an M7
|   Saturday, December 21, 2013
BMW M Division head of Engineering Albert Biermann says that an M7 should be designed on its latest 7 Series vehicles. Although Biermann is keen on this model, BMW's M Division has never formally worked on such a vehicle. If conceived and launched, it would undoubtedly be a flagship for BMW for the next few years at least. Alpina however is currently working on the B7, which is powered by a twin turbocharged engine displacing 533 BHP. Biermann however says that an M7 would be quite different from what Alpina is working on right now.

The M7 is in an extremely lucrative market segment although it is not just about making profits. BMW has been working on its 7 Series vehicles for a long time and an M7 could be added to its lineup quite easily. Top level officials however are not quite sure of the commercial viability of this vehicle and are skeptical about launching multiple vehicles within a price bracket.

However if things pick up pace, an M7 would be designed different from Alpina's grand creation. BMW is currently stalling work on its next generation M3, M5 and M6 models while plan is on to launch an M3 GT fall 2016. Funds generated by an M7 could be used extensively in investment purposes for the future. BMW however plans on extending M Series backup to its line of SUVs which means we are lined up for high performance SUVs in the very near future.

The current variants of the X3 and X4 will very soon be upgraded to X5 M and X6 M. This will be in line with Audi's S and RS lineup although details of these builds are still far from being ready. Alpina has worked extensively on the B7 and although this vehicle looks like a regular BMW 7 Series, it tells a whole new tale under the hood and on the interior. Some of its minor characteristic changes on the exterior include standard 21 inch rims, functional cooling vents, and aerodynamic bumper, along with double tail pipes.

Liberal use of leather on its interior along with a bespoke cabin is its other add-ons while a slew of technical changes have been made to incorporate its advanced feel. Cruise Control, Comprehensive Four Zone Climate Control, Glass Sunroof, Electric Memory Seats, Self Leveling Suspension, Bluetooth and Sat Nav connectivity are its other comprehensive features. A twin turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 powerhouse is behind this vehicle and is responsible for sufficient power displacement.

BMW however confirms that they will distinguish an M7 from the specifications of the B7 even though Biermann failed to specify what he has in mind. BMW had rubbished plans on launching an M7 back in 2009 and it looks like the company has failed to change its mind even after all these years. We on the other hand are looking forward to a performance edition vehicle from BMW soon. Stay tuned for latest updates regarding BMW's latest plans of launching an M7.
