BMW Announces a Minor Facelift for the Z4 sDrive 35is
|   Thursday, April 25, 2013
The BMW Z4 is the perfect example of the order of restraint followed by the premium segment German car maker. Nearly four years after the second generation model of the Z4 was unveiled, the company has decided to give the vehicle a minor face lift. The Z4 is one of the most popular vehicles from the house of BMW and experts were hoping for some prominent changes that could change the way people look at the car.

The most prominent changes on the BMW Z4 are 19 inch rims which replace the older 17 inch ones, new chromed front and rear bumper, new rim designs etc.
The front grille along with the headlamps have been changed too which makes the front end of the vehicle look more user friendly yet aggressive. However, the company failed to fine tune the appearance of the vehicle as a Styrofoam piece is clearly visible at the front end of the vehicle which kills the look of the car.

The vehicle is powered by a straight six 3.0 liter turbo charged petrol engine which is not completely new in the BMW circuit. However, this is the best choice from among the five other engine options BMW had in its kitty as the power and torque displacement of this engine is the highest amongst the lot.

As a result the Z4 sDrive 35is feels very powerful and the high torque displacement of the engine enhances the way the vehicle performs. However, most importantly the new Z4 sounds amazing. The exhaust note has a deep bass note and the rev sounds amazing. This works well with the mean look of the vehicle and the performance is just a bonus.

The engine displaces 335 BHP – which is 20 BHP more than the flat six 3.4 liter petrol engine powering the Porsche Boxter S. The Z4 features a dual clutch seven speed automatic transmission system mated to the engine and this provides the class leading performance figures on the vehicle. Acceleration from 0 – 60 MPH is possible within 4.8 seconds which is 0.3 seconds less than the Porsche Boxter S.

Basically, the Z4 is similar to its predecessor on more counts than one but that does not undermine the fact that the vehicle is very sporty, driver friendly, comfortable, aggressive looking and practical. The Dynamic Stability Control of the Z4 however needs to be turned off in order to get the best idea of what this beast is capable of in real world conditions. The minor face lift will hardly enhance the customer following of the Z4 but the original version of the car did not repel customers either.

The Z4 is a true roadster and the minor modifications are set to preserve the stability of the vehicle in the market till 2016 when the planned third generation model of the Z4 is officially expected. The Z4 however faces stiff market competition from the Jaguar F Type and the Porsche Boxter although it manages to keep its feet firmly planted on the ground.
