BMW 335d Touring xDrive cruising with 309 bhp

BMW extends their 3 series Touring range with an all new BMW 335d Touring xDrive. Some might say it is a replacement or a compensation for there not being any M variant like a coupe in this range, but that is not entirely true. There are many standalone great features in the car to make it deserving of production by itself.

Being a part of the BMW 3 series is always a good thing. And when authorities at the company are putting in extra effort to make it look good and powerful, then there can be nothing better.
Being a part of an existing series, it has some qualities in common with other 3-Series cars, but there are some unique features as well.

Design aspects are well defined and discrete. As all other BMW cars, it flaunts a kidney shaped grille up front, with a lower poised front portion for a more attacking an aggressive stance.

Everything on the interior looks quite similar to other 3 series cars. All features are well assembled and well distributed throughout the front cabin. Good quality materials have been used to fabricate the interiors. There is enough head space and leg space both in pilot cabin as well as in rear passenger seat. The rear glass can be opened separately to tailgate.

Now coming to very significant aspect of an automobile, power. BMW 335d Touring xDrive gets a twin turbo engine with a straight six transmission system. It is a diesel engine to take care of fuel economy. The engine dishes out 309 bhp at peak.

It has a reasonable mileage of 50 miles per gallon. Time for 0 to 62 miles per hour is just a bit less than 5 seconds. It comes with all wheel drive, contrary to front wheel drive in other similar cars, and there are some added advantages to it.

Power split is in a ratio of 40 to 60 for front to rear. However, BMW claims that the superior technology they are using is capable of transferring complete amount of power to either front or back wheel with help of the dual clutch at any point of time.

They actually claim that 99 per cent of power can be transferred either to front axle or to back ale using the dual clutch. There has been some moderate testing done in Britain that supports this claim of theirs.

Traction is going to improve because of this inclusion of 4WD (4 wheel drive). It will also be an ideal car for towing, although no one would buy it simply to use it as a towing car. There are other aspects of this car that can be used in the sales pitch. Overall, it is a high performing car.

It has been priced just a bit above 40,000 GBP. Some might consider it a bit out of the affordable range, but one drive can prove them wrong. The amount of comfort and ease in the ride is unprecedented and makes it totally worthy.
