BMW 2 Series Coupe - First Official Information About The 1 Series Coupe's Brother

The BMW officially unveiled the new Series 2 Coupe, the spiritual descendant of the legendary 2002 and the first model in the Bavarian manufacturer panoply that will bear the indication "2". The world premiere will take place in January in Detroit.

To provide a specific niche model the aura of exclusivity, the Bavarians have decided to rename the sports derivatives of the 1-Series which will be turned into the new 2 Series. This strategy was already successfully applied to models related to the 5 Series and 6 Series.
A four-seat cabriolet is also part of this program.
Expected on the market in the second half of next year, it will again appeal to the solution of the removable textile pavilion due to space and cost considerations.

At the basis of the new 2Series is the technical platform, engines and rear-wheel drive of the current 1 Series. With a length of 4.43 m and a width of 1.77 m, the new Coupe is 72 mm longer and 24 mm wider than the old 1 Series Coupe. The wheelbase has also increased by 30 mm, up to 2.69 m. The new model offers more room for the knees (+21 mm) of rear passengers and a car trunk of 390 liters, 20 liters more roomy.

In addition, the new 2 Series can boast of a low drag coefficient just 0.29 Cd, and greater dynamics thanks to the front / rear gauge widths being increased by 41 / 43 mm, and ideal distribution 50:50 weight to the two decks.

Following the example of the 1 Series, the new model will be available in the company line equipment Sport Line and Modern Line. For a fee, and standard for M235i, the M Sport package will be offered, which will bring additional interior and exterior aesthetic changes, brakes and specially tuned suspension, a ground clearance reduced by 10 mm and 18 inch alloy wheels, and finished in a special shade of gray mat.

The Driving Experience Control system will be included in the series equipment, and allows the driver to choose one of four distinct modes of engine, transaxle, suspension and steering operation: Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Eco Pro.

The top model, M235i, will be powered by a turbocharged 3-liter engine with 6 cylinders. It will develop 326 HP and 450 Nm, between 1300 and 4500 rpm, sufficient to propel the new coupe from 0 to 100 km / h in 5 seconds. The model equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission will be faster and will reach 100 km / h from a standing start in 4.8 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km / h, average fuel consumption is estimated at 8.1 l / 100 km. Optionally, you may order a rear limited slip differential, available exclusively for M235i.

Production of the new Series 2 will start in November at the BMW plant in Leipzig. In Germany, prices excluding VAT, will start from 25.169 euro, quotation applies to initial 220i entry-level variant. For the diesel 220d, prices will start from 27,311 euros and the top model, M235i will cost 36,765 euros.
