Bloodhound SSC - The Supersonic Car What Will Beat All Speed Records
|   Sunday, October 04, 2015
In an event hosted at Canary Wharf, London, a car that will soon beat the speed record on land was launched. The Bloodhound SSC is the product of eight years of research in which 350 companies and universities in aerospace engineering and Formula 1participated . The main purpose of this rocket on wheels is to beat the record of 1,227.99 km / h set by the Briton Andy Green at the wheel of ThrustSSC in 1997.

The supersonic car will be tested in South Africa in the Hakskeen Pan desert, Northern Cape in South Africa in 2017.
The desert meets the requirements of the team that targeted a length of at least 19 km (12 miles), 3.2 km (two miles) wide and perfectly flat surface. Once they had agreed on the Hakskeen Pan, a team of locals (317 people) were employed to clear the desert, and they manually got rid of 15,800 tons of stones !

At maximum speed, the car will travel a mile (1.6 km) every 3.6 seconds. It has three centers of power, a Rolls-Royce EJ200 turbojet, from a Eurofighter Typhoon, a set of hybrid rockets NAMMO, and a racing car engine taken from Jaguar and rated at750 hp, which acts the rocket oxidizer pump. Together, they generate the equivalent of 135,000 hp, or about as much force as 180 Formula 1 cars.

Estimated speed of this 13.5 meters giant with a weight of 7.768 kg is 1.690 km / h (1000 mph)! This is a higher speed even when compared to the speed that a Magnum 357 bullet can reach.

The current world land speed record of 1,227 km/h (763 mph) is held by Thrust SSC, a UK team led by Bloodhound's Project Director Richard Noble and piloted by Andy Green.

Bloodhound's project director Richard Noble is himself a holder of the land speed record between 1983 to 1997, (driving the Thrust 2 to 1018.714752 km/h (633 mph) in 1983) and he told told IBTimes UK that the "Bloodhound is about breaking the world land speed record and producing the world's fastest car, but the curious thing is, that's not its primary objective. It's primary objective is to create change and generate a new generation of scientists and engineers."

Bloodhound's wheels spin at about 10,200 rpm, 170 times per second, and they generate 50,000 radial G. It will travel from zero to 1,610km/h (1,000 mph) in 55 seconds and go back to zero again after another 65 seconds, meanwhile covering 19 km (12 miles). This deceleration will be 3G, which has been compared to going from 100 km/h (60 mph) to zero in one second.

The attempt to beat the speed record will take place in South Africa in 2016 (on 15 October), and at the steering wheel of the Bloodhound SSC will be the same Andy Green. To track how he performs during the race, the supersonic car will be equipped with 12 cameras, including two inside to watch the pilot. For the first time the Bloodhound will reach 1287.4752 km/h (800 mph) in 2016, and then come back with a race to reach 1609.344 km/h (1.000 mph) in 2017!
