Biggest Electric Bus Fleet In Europe Provided By BYD
|   Wednesday, December 09, 2015
BYD is the largest manufacturer of 100 percent electric buses and the brand from China decisively contributed to achieving the ecological goals set by the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam.

Specifically, BYD has provided the biggest fleet of electric buses in Europe, the first of its kind which operate in an international airport. The electric fleet consists of 35 buses that are already in operation, aiming to transfer passengers to aircraft or between terminals.

BYD is the largest manufacturer of electric buses worldwide with over 3,000 units already operating. Some of these copies have already travelled more than 287,000 km. In fact, the whole vision of those from BYD is concentrated in the sense of a cleaner environment as a result of transportation, either on public roads or airports.

At this moment, the actions of domestic transport at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam are almost entirely environmentally friendly. Along with the 35 BYD buses a system of taxis also operates, which is becoming fully electric, while electric trains were already clean.
BYD buses are on the streets for a while now and have already traveled more than 338,000 kilometers (in total), and the average consumption is 1.2 kWh energy / km. Preliminary calculations show that 312,000 kg of carbon dioxide were already saved that would have been emitted by buses with conventional propulsion systems.

The eBUS models have been specifically tailored by BYD to meet all the requirements from the airport in Amsterdam.
Compared with other competing electric buses, the battery pack is smaller but the technologies developed by BYD allow a large range. The space thus gained is utilized for luggage or passenger. The cab has been designed carefully to meet Dutch standards of ergonomics in the workplace, while the colors and materials used in the interior have also been chosen by mutual agreement.

Regarding the record held by Schiphol airport, with just 35 electrical units, it will not withstand more than a few months. At the middle of 2016 a new fleet of 51 units BYD eBUS will be delivered to a public transportation company in London. However, BYD hopes that the people of Schiphol have set the tone for other airports and others will appeal to their expertise.

"BYD is honoured to have played a key role in helping Schiphol's airside transportation fleet to become one of the greenest in world. This fleet of 35 BYD eBuses is at present the largest fleet of pure electric full size buses operating in Europe, a fact that underlines Schiphol's commitment to sustainability. With their massive reliance on diesel engined vehicles and ground support equipment, airports represent a great opportunity to clean up the air we breathe.

In fact this fleet means that ground transportation on the air side at Schiphol is completely clean now. The rail transportation to the airport is clean and taxi transportation is on the way to be becoming clean so the next step is to make bus transportation to the airport zero emission as well. We stand ready to work with the operators and government regulatory bodies" declared Isbrand Ho, BYD Europe Managing Director.
