Bentley's Continental GT V8 S is Most Definitely a Giant Killer
|   Sunday, May 18, 2014
If you thought that Bentley's Continental GT Convertible was a treat to drive, you should see the new S Version that Bentley has come up with. Priced at £152,900, this beauty is powered by a 4.0 liter twin turbo charged V8 S power plant, displacing 521 BHP, along with 502 ft lb of torque (21 BHP and 15 ft lb higher than its standard Continental GT V8). Bentley says there will be no evident difference in fuel efficiency or CO2 emissions despite this minor power boost.

Even though these figures are still no match for Audi's RS7 Sportback or RS6 Avant, it is sufficient to reduce the V8 S convertible's acceleration period from 0 – 60 MPH to 4.5 seconds, while top speed has increased to 191 MPH. Increase in speed is complemented well by its lowered suspension springs, which provides additional stability and body roll control.

Some of the additional features on this vehicle include an all new aerodynamic lower body design, sill extensions, revised suspension, rear diffuser and steering damper. Mechanical modifications include new eight speed automated transmission system, with stability control to balance out the vehicle's responsiveness. The Bentley Continental GT V8 is already our favorite. So what has the engineers done to their V8 S to further enhance this appeal?

This vehicle has an abundance of shining black veneer on its beautifully sculpted interior, although there are various other classic color coding options for you to choose from. Bentley is offering standard double spoke alloyed 20 inch rims on their V8 S, with red brake calipers. Optional 21 inch rims could be installed, along with carbon ceramic disk brakes, for an additional 10 Grand.

Minor aerodynamic revisions paid off too, as body control and stability at high speeds is awe inspiring. Pushing you to reach the 191 MPH top speed, hence, is more practical and convenient. The Continental GT V8 S convertible is a fantastic vehicle to drive in low RPMs too! Bentley has designed this vehicle, keeping in mind the need for urban commuting. Hence, high performance can be problematic within city limits. This is where low end RPM control pays off.

Bentley is hoping to attract Chinese customers with this vehicle and hence certain features need to be in their proper place. Cabin comfort needs to be high, while driving should be easy. The biggest obstacle that Bentley seems to have overcome with this vehicle is issues with its weight. The V8 S convertible has lost a considerable amount of weight, which in turn enhances handling and overall performance.

Bentley is rumored to be working on an even hotter variant of their Continental Supersports, capable of displacing 545 BHP. This vehicle is based on the GT3 platform and shares various similarities. This is an interesting prospect and should have numerous advantages over their current generation vehicles. There is hardly another vehicle to complete with Bentley's Continental GT V8 S lineup, in terms of performance and luxury. Come back soon for live updates and more news!
