Bentley Work Their Way Back to Le Mans With the 2014 Continental GT3
|   Wednesday, July 17, 2013
Bentley will shortly be returning to the world of Motorsports, CEO Wolfgang Schreiber announced. This will also be the starting of the third generation of the company, since the Le Mans winning days of the Speed 8. The Bentley Continental GT3 is expected to be the icing on the cake and the company does not wish to take chances with this vehicle. As a result a range of comprehensive tests and in house experiments are expected to be conducted on this machine before being formally showcased.

Bentley will take part in the maiden Le Mans season – the FIA Blancpain 2014 – and hence time is running out fast. The Continental GT3 has to comply with all the rules of the federation and as a result last minute preparations and adjustments are being made on the car. The weight of the car is being adjusted and this should be a challenge considering the fact that most of Bentley's creations are on the heavier side of the story.
The Continental GT3 is expected to be powered by a 4.0 liter V8 engine fitted with twin turbo chargers and an ECU from Cosworth. The rear wheel drive platform is also lighter while the double wish bone suspension and the six speed sequential transmission systems along with the adjustable dampers are new additions on this machine.

Bentley claims that the Continental GT3 will be tested this season at various locations across the globe and 1000 excited employees are waiting for the GT3 to outperform its segment. This vehicle is completely redesigned and reengineered and there should be no lingering problems carrier forward from the previous generation. The GT3 is an overall better vehicle with advanced dynamics, power and weight.

Bentley has designed this vehicle to be a race winner and the company has huge expectation on the drivers this season. The driving crew will be led by Guy Smith, although the team wants to bring in fresh talents to continue with the legacy. Porsche will be a tough challenger this year along with Audi as these constructors have been winning for the past few years.

Engineers at Bentley are confident that the Continental GT3 is capable of outperforming any of these vehicles although official word can come in only after the range of tests have neared completion. The Continental GT3 will find competition from McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari and this should be the real test for the drivers. The on road tests will also benefit the drivers as they will get additional time to be in tune with their cars.

This proves to be a very promising season of Le Mans and the competition is on the verge of sizzling. Bentley has however not confirmed plans to design a street legal version of the Continental GT3 based on the track version although demand for a high performance Bentley is doing the rounds. Bentley is still new to track racing and this should be a very interesting and informative year for the British car making giants.
