Bentley Flying Spur - Potent Threat to the Big Players in Class
|   Friday, July 19, 2013
The Bentley Flying Spur may look like any other luxury saloon but the company has managed to deceive typecasts yet again. Considering the fact that this is in fact a Bentley, performance is top criterion followed by luxury comfort and aesthetics. The latest Bentley Flying Spur is a luxury saloon in the true sense of the term although power comes from a 6.0 liter W12 engine.

This massive powerhouse displaces 616 BHP while the previous generation Mulsanne was powered by a 505 BHP displacing 6.
liter engine. While the Mulsanne was priced at £225,900, the Flying Spur sports a price tag of £140,900. Bentley designs its vehicles for a distinctive class of customers who like the design of the vehicle and this is what makes any Bentley special and unique. The Bentley Flying Spur is a competitive product in the market and finds a worthy opponent in the Mercedes Benz S Class.

The quality of the Flying Spur is class leading and this is not a surprise since it does sport the Bentley nameplate. The interior is a whole new story although the level of refinement continues into the interior. The mats adorn the floor while the leather upholstery enhances the aesthetic value of the car.

Although the Mulsanne is based on a longer wheel base, the Flying Spur is a hit. This is mainly due to the fact that the Mulsanne is actually chauffeur driven vehicle while the Flying Spur can actually be driven by the owner. Bentley has kept facts in mind and hence the Flying Spur provides a better ride than people actually expect. Boot space is higher on the Flying Spur although this is less expensive vehicle of the two.

Bentley's are known for their sporty edge and this is where the Flying Spur kicks off. The car weighs 2475 kg and is based on a four wheel drive train. Bentley claims that the Flying Spur is capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 4.3 seconds and this is remarkable timing considering the weight of the vehicle. The W12 engine block is not new on this machine although the minor tweaks doe help the cause.

The engine displaces 800 Nm of torque at the most although the V8 version packs in lesser amount of power. Nonetheless the Flying Spur is an amazing and refined machine and Bentley deserves full credit for thinking up this wonderful luxury sports saloon. The exhaust note of this vehicle is quite amazing and this is the primary reason for this car doing well among the influential youth.

The ride quality has been improved while the cabin feels cut out from the world. The steering column is well balanced and sturdy although it is feather weight enough to control effortlessly. The car is very handsome from both the interior and exterior although the contemporary styling from Bentley continues. The use of quality materials is always a plus and there is no better way to feel it, than from the inside of a Bentley.
