Audi Vs BMW: "We have the fastest car in the world with laser headlights, R8 LMX"
|   Tuesday, June 24, 2014
The dispute between Audi and BMW regarding laser headlights reaches a new level: Audi says it has the fastest car in the world with laser lights. The change of direction comes after BMW delivered the first i8 series model with standard laser lights, forcing Audi to make this bold statement.

If the battle between the German premium manufacturers was held until recently in categories such as fuel consumption, dynamic performance and horsepower, Audi and BMW took the rivalry to a new chapter: laser headlights and, more recently, who has the fastest car equipped with laser lights.

It all started in January, when Audi introduced at CES 2014, the most important event in the world of electronics, a concept called the Sport Quattro Laserlight. About this concept it was said it was the first model equipped with laser lights. But those from BMW, responded quickly saying that they are already preparing the series version of a model equipped with laser lights. From that moment the two brands had a little word war on different channels, promoting their technologies.

Recently, BMW delivered the first i8 model equipped with laser lights as standard, beating Audi in this chapter. Audi also had a production model that was offered with laser lights, the special edition R8 LMX, which would be available starting this summer. Subsequently, Audi has changed the motto promoting the new R8 LMX as the fastest car with laser headlights in the world.

The supercar from Ingolstadt is equipped with a V10 engine, displacing 5.2 liters, that provides 570 hp (419 kW) and 540 Nm of torque, making it capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds and can reach a top speed 320 km / h (199 mph).

A compact, seven speed S tronic transmission transfers the power to the quattro permanent all wheel drive system, which distributes it judiciously to the racing-inspired 19-inch, 20-spoke wheels shod with tires measuring 215mm front and 305mm rear widths. These conceal carbon fiber ceramic brake discs with red calipers measuring 380 mm in diameter in front.

"The transfer of the laser headlight to the Audi R8 LMX underscores our leading position in lighting technology. The safety benefit this provides to the customer truly represents Vorsprung durch Technik," says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi AG's Board Member for Development.

In comparison, the Munich hybrid supercar is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km / h (155 mph), lower specification compared to the rival model, but provided by a hybrid propulsion system.

The BMW i8 hybrid supercar Germans costs 126,000 euro on the German market. The futuristic BMW has four seats, a carbon fiber bodywork plastic reinforced, and a completely new drivetrain. The I8's center of gravity is located less than 46 centimeters from the ground and weight distribution between the axles is 50:50. The Germans kept the "butterfly" opening doors, as shown on the concept and delivered a futuristic model with a similar interior to that found on other models in their range.
