Audi TT Offroad - A Sporty Crossover Concept
|   Tuesday, April 22, 2014
The Audi TT Offroad concept was presented in a special event held just before the opening of the Beijing Auto Show (Date April 20, 2014 to April 29, 2014). The study presents a possible SUV based on the TT, but in a version with four doors. If it reaches production lines, the series model will be likely called TTQ.

"The Audi TT offroad concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family," said Ulrich Hackenberg, chief of Audi‘s technical department.
"If it becomes reality, it will be the sportiest SUV in its class," he added.

Audi officials will decide in the next six months if this concept will be produced in series, and if the decision is favorable we will have an offroad TT model series in two years. Audi's idea is to transform the TT in an SUV with the size of a Q3. To make it more practical the German designers have endowed it with four doors, but other lines are inspired by the TT.

To propel the SUV based on TT, Audi's engineers have chosen a hybrid solution. Thus, under the hood is the 2.0 TFSI petrol engine that produces 292 hp. Along with this engine, the Audi TT offroad concept also uses two electrical units, one associated with the automatic gearbox with six speeds S-Tronic, the other located on the rear axle. Together, the three motors total 408 hp and have a torque of 650 Nm (479.2 lb ft). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h (62.1 mph) is done in 5.2 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155.3 mph). Thanks to the electric motors and accumulators battery, the Audi TT offroad concept can travel 50 km using only electric power and has total autonomy range of 880 km.

The TT offroad concept uses a wireless system to recharge the batteries. The car should be positioned just over a parking specifically designed to be charged without the need for cables.
The charging time is similar to that of the cable system. Audi says that this technology is now at over 90 percent efficiency and is not affected by weather factors such as rain or snow.

Audi has used the MQB platform to build this concept and if it will go into series production it will compete with models like the Range Rover Evoque, Porsche Macan, or BMW X4. The interior is similar to that of the new TT model, with the central point being the virtual cockpit with 12.3 inch display that can be customized as desired of the driver.

The production of the TTQ would extend Audi's Q range to five models (the Q1, Q3, Q5 and Q7) and the TT range to four models.
"We chose to present the Audi TT offroad concept in China, our second domestic market, because it represents the urban mobility of tomorrow: It is sustainable, dynamic, intelligent and connected," declared Hackenberg.
