Audi To Expand Its Range With 11 New Models, Mostly SUVs
|   Tuesday, December 31, 2013
Audi is planning to extend its range with 11 new models. Most of them will be SUVs which will target rivals like the BMW X4, Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes GL.
This year has been a successful one for Audi, which is trying hard to catch up BMW. The Germans managed to exceed the threshold of 1.5 million units sold in a year. This performance was achieved two years earlier than estimated by the company's officials.

To maintain the upward trend of sales and become more competitive, those from Audi announce the expansion of their range with another 11 models.
Under these conditions, the list of products bearing the four rings logo will amount to 60 products.

"Our whole team is making Audi history today: In 2005, we set ourselves a very ambitious goal, and since then have sparked an unparalleled brand and model initiative," stated Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi. "We will continue to write this success story and expand our product range from the current 49 to 60 models. We see a great deal of potential, particularly in the SUV segment and in the especially prestigious full-size category."

"Today, we are reaching our intermediate target significantly earlier than planned, despite extremely challenging conditions in many markets," further develops Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales at Audi. "We are now setting our sights on the next target and are in a strong position to achieve the two million mark by 2020."

Although no details about the models that will appear in the Audi range is yet available, information provided by Autocar magazine shed some light on the case. According to the British, Audi has recently registered several model names. These names include the Q2, SQ2, SQ4 and Q9. This information confirms Stadler's intentions to strengthen the presence of Audi in SUV territory.

Speculating on the basis of this information, we might see the Audi range making room for a small SUV coupe, called Q2, along with its performance version, SQ2. The Q2 will have a big brother, a compact SUV coupe, called Q4, the declared rival of the future BMW X4, and the current Range Rover Evoque. In turn, it will have a sports version, the SQ4.

Recently recorded is the name of Q9, which announces a large SUV, designed to rival the Mercedes GL. The details come to complement the official information already existing about the Audi 4x4 range launching the Q6 version to fight the BMW X6, and Q1, which already is anticipated by a concept in next month's Detroit auto show.

Furthermore, Autocar claims that the Germans have reserved the right to use the names f-tron and A9. About the A9, it is probably a higher version of the A8 limo, and as for the f-tron name, most voices argue that it indicates future versions that will be powered by hydrogen. The scenario becomes plausible if we consider that in the past, Wolfgang Durheimer, former Audi chief engineer, said the research department is working on an Audi A7 powered by hydrogen.
