Audi To Debut 570 HP R8 At LA Auto Show
|   Saturday, November 01, 2014
Audi will unveil the latest version of its top-of-the-line R8 at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show.

The limited-edition R8 competition will be powered by a 570-horsepower V-10 powerplant. The powerplant is mated to the automaker's seven-speed Stronic transmission.

When a driver slides behind the wheel of the race-inspired 2015 R8, pushes the start button and depresses the accelerator, the V-10 will respond with a lusty growl through a tuned sport exhaust system.
The exhaust system is highlighted by its black high-gloss tailpipes.

"The limited-edition Audi R-8 competition is the closest road car to our R8 LMS ultra race car," according to Scott Keogh, president of Audi of America. "It is designed for the driving enthusiast and we're excited to bring 60 units as a limited-edition to the U.S." The R8 LMS has had a lot of success on circuits around the world as it has won every race it has entered,"

Audi made the announcement from its Herndon, VA headquarters.

The high-performance R8 competition is the fastest ever offered. It has a 0 t0 60 clock of 3.2 seconds. That speed alone puts its performance in the supercar category as does its reported 199 mph. (It is likely that this figure will fall as the units are purchased and put through their paces.)

The R8 competition pushes all types of limits, the company notes. For example, it uses the same naturally aspirated V10 FSI that Audi used on the R8 LMS. The R8 LMS took the 24 Hours at Daytona, as well as the Nurburgring 24-hour competition. The durable engine went through 13,000 miles of the extreme testing at major GT competitions around the globe.

The V10 powerplant, the pinnacle of Audi engineering, is so durable that it does not require service during a 24-hour race. Instead, the engine receives a major service after a grueling 24-hour race.

The R8 competition, a striking performance machine, features attractive matte carbon exterior elements consisting of a fixed rear spoiler, engine bay, mirror housing, flics, side blades, front spoiler and rear diffusor. The combination of carbon elements lower the weight of the R8 competition and provide greater downforce for a huge grip.

Gloss-black wheels with 305 cross-section rear tires and ceramic brakes with anodized red brake calipers provide a stunning contrast to the matte carbon fiber elements.

Inside, you find a matte carbon fiber treatment including the center console and illuminated "R8 competition" badge on door sill inlays.

To be built at Audi's Neckarsulm, Germany plant, the exclusively Audi line vehicle allows the driver to pair a variety of interior and exterior colors. Drivers can also choose from a selection of wheel finishes for a personal look. Customers can begin ordering the R8 competition early in November. First deliveries are planned shortly after the first of the year.
