Audi showcases the RS7 at the Detroit Auto Show

Audi is all set to take up the challenge presented by the recently unveiled BMW M6 GranCoupe. The German car giant has announced the launch of its 4.0 liter, twin turbo super charged V8 powered Audi RS7 Sport back, which displaces a mighty 552 BHP. The vehicle has been launched at the Detroit Auto Show and this brings up the Audi RS tally to six cars as of the moment.

Although the details of the vehicle and the price for the UK market are yet to be announced, experts believe the price to be close to £78,000.
The vehicle is powered by a 4.0 liter petrol powered V8 engine which also features in the RS6 Avant, also showcased at the event. The engine displaces 552 BHP @ 7000 RPM along with 553 ft lb of torque @ 1750 RPM – 5500 RPM.

The engine has been heavily tuned and as a result the displacement is more than the engine used on the S7 Sport back which also features a similar V8 engine. The all new M6 GranCoupe features a 4.4 liter V8 engine while displacing 552 BHP. However torque production has been decreased by 52 ft lb. The engine is mated to an eight speed transmission system as the standard seven speed transmission systems used on the standard R7 Sport back is not able to withstand the high torque formation of the vehicle.

The best aspects of the Audi Quattro four wheel drive technology have been combined with the latest transmission system to give the vehicle a smart new edge over its predecessors. Audi is offering three distinct drive modes on the vehicle – Drive, Manual and Sport - and this seems to be fairly complimenting the ride quality of the vehicle.

Audi has not yet disclosed the weight of the vehicle however experts believe that the vehicle will reach 0 – 60 MPH in less than 3.9 seconds while featuring a top speed of 155 MPH. This means that the weight is expected to be considerably lower. The top speed can however be increased to 174 MPH after installing the optional performance enhancing kit while it can be increased to 190 MPH with the Dynamic Plus Package.

The Audi RS7 Sport back is a heavily tuned version of the A7 Sport back and as a result most of the parts used on the vehicles are the same. The chassis is however wider while the suspension has been reworked. The Dynamic Ride Control has also been added to the RS7 Sport back and this is a move which has also been used on the Audi RS6 Avant.

Audi is quite keen on the new RS Series and as a result each of the vehicles is being designed and crafted to perfection by the engineering and the designing teams before the vehicles are being launched. The hype around the vehicles is increasing and this series is expected to do well in the market post launch. As of now the enthusiasts are waiting for the official specifications to be revealed.
