Audi showcases the concept A1 e-tron
Audi has come up with the second generation of the A1 e-tron Concept vehicle and this vehicle is the perfect example of what a conventional hybrid should be like. The first generation of the A1 e-tron was showcased back in 2010 and the vehicle received huge applause from different quarters of the industry. However, the vehicle had some minor problems which needed to be dealt with.
Finally, Audi has come up with a solution to all those errors and the second model of the A1 e-tron came into being.
The small pack of batteries power the vehicle for close to 31 miles and the engine further increases this range by another 120 miles. Hence, the system of motors when connected, produce enough power to enable the A1 e-tron concept to gauge huge distances at a go without the need to recharge.
The A1 e-tron concept has a special dual mode drive train which allows both the engines to kick in at the same instance and as a result more power is generated. The 1.5 liter engine installed in the e-tron concept produces 128 BHP and 146 ft lb of torque and is a three cylinders based system.
The electric motor on the other hand produces a generous 67 BHP and 156 ft lb of torque and Audi claims that motor in addition to starting up the motor, also helps the vehicle in course of travelling.
A presence of a second electric motor present on the opposite side of the engine produces 115 BHP and 184 ft lb of torque. This motor is connected directly to the single speed transmission system of the vehicle which is in turn connected to the vehicle's front wheels.
The A1 e-tron concept is driven up to speeds of 34 mph by the electric engine and post that the petrol engine kicks in. The car has a top speed of 115 mph and the electric motor can power the vehicle up to 84 mph.
The A1 e-tron concept has a strange refinement to the engine, a trait that is somewhat uncommon in electric vehicles. This proto type is an engineering marvel and if future production line vehicles are based on the A1 e-tron, the future surely looks bright for Audi.
The A1 e-tron concept accelerates from 0 – 60 mph in around nine seconds and the vehicle has a very basic engine layout. The exclusion of complexity from engine designing makes the A e-tron concept a very user friendly vehicle and the motor is less likely to get damaged in the course of repairs, if necessary.
The price of the production model of the e-tron is yet to be launched. However, there are speculations in the market that the production line vehicle is directly inspired from the concept vehicle.
