Audi Sales Pick Up in 2013 Even Though Net Profits Decline
|   Tuesday, March 18, 2014
Audi manufactured a record number of vehicles last year. While sales picked up pretty quick, overall profits have fallen. The brand manufactured 1.575 Million vehicles in 2013, as compared to 1.455 Million back in 2012, which is an improvement of 8.3 percent. Profits however have fallen to £3.34 Billion, which is 7.7 percent as compared to the previous year's recorded figures. Sales of the Audi A3 have picked up considerably during last year, which is also one of Audi's highlights for the same time period.

Their Q3 SUV is also selling like hot cake in Asian, Arabian, European and American markets. Their Q5 and Q7 have also seen sufficient improvements, while upgraded variants are soon to be introduced across global markets. Global SUV sale has picked up by close to 20 percent since 2012 and this is great news for car makers and market experts.

The Chinese market has absorbed 442,000 units manufactured by Audi in 2013, which is a rise of about 20 percent from previously recorded sales. Sales in the United States have picked up by 13.5 percent, with the latest figures standing at 158,000 units. Ducati Motorcycles and Lamborghini (part of the Volkswagen Group that owns Audi) have also done considerably well in 2013.

While Lamborghini sold 2121 units in 2013 as compared to 2083 back in 2012, figures for Ducati have not been mentioned. Audi bosses have however refused to accept that downsizing focus on premium segment vehicles have actually led to the rise in sales of lower placed vehicles such as the Q3 and A3. Audi's current plans however should lead the focus back to premium segment vehicles, which ensure larger profit margins in forthcoming years.

Vehicle performance has increased quite a bit during the last half a decade, especially due to heavy investments in infrastructure development and Research and Development. Audi has plans to invest close to £18.3 Billion worldwide, for added infrastructure projects. Audi's future seems to be bright and clear, which 17 new vehicles are expected to be launched this year alone. We will update you as soon as official word trickles in. Hence, be patient and stay tuned for more from Audi's house (read HQ).

Volkswagen's second generation MLB platform seems to have done wonders for Audi's vehicles, which push sales seems to have worked too. Showrooms were instructed to offer heavy discounts and easy down payment and EMI options. These seem to have paid off well for the brand. Audi is currently working on establishing production facilities around the globe, while many new factories should soon commence operation.

2014 has been great for the German car makers so far, with January and February sales picking up quick. We forecast a smooth sailing this year round too, which profit margins should increase soon too. BMW is making it big in premium segment car markets, although the global mass market is still Audi's playhouse. We expect positive news for Audi by end 2014 too and will keep you informed of any changes along the way.
