Audi RS6 Avant; Tough Competitor in the Sports Segment
|   Monday, July 08, 2013
The Audi RS6 is a well known vehicle both on and off track and its peculiar characteristics make this vehicle one of a kind. However, not all performance vehicles from Audi have been this drive friendly. In fact, some of the earlier models in the RS Series were actually very unpredictable owing to their handling and comfort factor. The RS6 Avant however has a whole new story to tell.

The RS6 Avant is powered by a twin turbo charged 4.0 liter V8 engine displacing 553 BHP as well as a 5.
liter V10 engine displacing 571 BHP. The RS6 weighs approximately 2145 kg although the Avant weighs close to 2010 kg. The general dynamics and dimension of the Avant are similar to that of the RS6 although the mechanical changes are notable.

The exhaust valves and pipes sit pretty on the rear bumper and this enhances the way the car looks from the rear end. The exhaust is also louder than before, which lends a sportier feel to the vehicle. The inside has also been shortened and this enhances the power generated by the turbo charger. The Avant is based on a four wheel drive platform while the tires are thinner however with more traction.

Although the interior of the vehicle is a few years old, the RS6 Avant still feels as good as any new vehicle. A new LCD display has been installed on the interior while the general ergonomics remain. The interior may resemble a boxy structure although it is endowed with all the major parts and d├ęcor which is expected from a vehicle such as the Rs6 Avant.

The chassis plays an important role in trimming the overall weight of the vehicle and the three spoke flat bottom wheel is a new addition to the design. Super sports seats adorn the interior and the quality of the material is top notch. Audi has left no room for complaints regarding the general aesthetics of the vehicle. The last engine upgrade came in 2011, in the form of the 3.0 liter TDI engine. This was a high revving engine although a bit louder than any of its predecessors.

The performance figures recorded on the Avant are actually better than anticipated and this enables the performance to be compared to that of the Porsche 911 GT2. The RS6 Avant is capable of accelerating from 0 - 60 MPH within 3.7 seconds and the time recorded can be pretty hard to beat even by industrial standards. The BMW M5 was a worthy competitor to the RS6 while the car was manufactured till 2005.

Although Audi claims that the ride quality of the RS6 Avant is better than its predecessor, this is a tough situation to comment on, given the fact that the Avant is not yet available for test drives. However, considering the fact that a slew of electronic assistance options have been installed on the car, it can be safely said that the quality of the vehicle in general as improved.
