Audi REveals A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Competition To Mark 25th Anniversary Of TDI Technology
|   Wednesday, July 16, 2014
Audi celebrates 25 years of TDI technology through the launch of a special version of the A7 Sportback model. It is called the 3.0 TDI Competition and is driven by a twin-turbo V6 engine TDI.
It has been modified to deliver 7 hp more, now developing 326 hp. The engine now benefits from an overboost function that allows the delivery of 20 additional horsepower for a short time when the driver accelerates to the maximum.

Maximum torque is 650 Nm available between 1,400 rpm and 2,800 rpm.
In terms of performance, the new Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Competition can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds, while average fuel consumption will be by 6.1 liters / 100 km, according to the manufacturer. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox.

To underline the dynamic character of the new model, the Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Competition comes equipped with the S Line sport package that includes a reduced ground clearance by 20 mm and 20-inch wheels. Standard tires for this model are 265 /35 R20.

Those who choose this version of the A7 Sportback will be able to choose from four shades of exterior color: gray Nardo, Misano Red, Daytona gray or blue Sepang.

Inside, the sports seats are upholstered with Valcona leather and buyers can optionally choose seats from the S Sport range.
Outside, the standard model comes equipped with LED lights and dynamic signals. Optionally Matrix LED headlights can be chosen, the powerful MMI Navigation plus as well as other driver assistance systems like the night vision assist.

The version 3.0 Competition can be ordered in Germany from August and the first deliveries will take place in September. The base price is 72,000 euro.
"25 years of TDI mean a quarter-century of progress, efficiency, dynamics and power. We look back on this time with pride. For the TDI, which Audi brought to the market before any other carmaker, is today the world's most successful efficiency technology. It thus made a big contribution to our brand's upward positioning in the premium segment of the market." says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, Technical Development. Audi is now pushing for the electrification of TDI engines.

In the last 25 years, TDI technology has managed to increase power and torque, in relation to engine capacity, by more than 100 percent, while emissions decreased by 98 percent over the same period.
Until now, Audi has produced around 7.5 million cars with TDI engines and almost 600,000 units in 2013 alone.

The three directions for the development of TDI technology are turbocharging, fuel injection, and Emissions Control. Engineers are working continuously to further reduce fuel consumption, increase power and torque, and improve operation smoothness.

This special edition A7 is not only a celebration of TDI technology. Audi has also revealed a new electric turbo TDI engine, which will be marketed on the next generation Q7 SUV.
