Audi Ready to Unveil the A3 based on Hybrid Technology
|   Saturday, March 02, 2013
Audi is set to unveil a special 201 BHP displacing petrol / hybrid version of the third generation Audi A3 at the Geneva Motor Show next month. This is a completely new car and the image has been showcased for the first time. This is Audi e-tron vehicle and the company expects this vehicle to be the most successful in the lot. With this power train, Audi hopes to improve performance of the existing models.

This semi electric power train is set to rival most petrol vehicles at the price point.
However, it is miles ahead in terms of technology and hence enjoys an additional edge in the segment. In fact, this model is more fuel efficient and powerful than most petrol, natural gas and diesel models that are present in the market today.

Having launched the latest e-tron versions of the R8 and the A1 Audi is quite confident of its creation and sales and that has directly emphasized the creation of the A3 e-tron. Audi is describing the e-tron as a realistic version of future cars and this emphasis is seriously affecting the car's feasibility in the market. This vehicle will definitely make a positive impression on the image of the brand.

Powering the Audi A3 e-tron is a four liter, 1.4 liter direct fuel injected petrol engine displacing 148 BHP, connected to an electric motor mated to a dual clutch six speed transmission system developing 101 BHP. Together, the engines displace 201 BHP along with 258 ft lb of torque and that makes the 1.8 liter TFSI engine on the Audi A3 look minor when compared. The hybrid engine displaces 24 BHP along with 74 ft lb of torque more than the 1.8 liter engine and that places it at a higher segment than that of its predecessor.

The new drive train supports three distinct drive modes, only petrol, only electricity and a hybrid drive train. There is a reserve pool that is present to enhance the performance of the vehicle in general. Audi has still not disclosed the power of the battery pack, weight and charge time however official figures puts 0 – 60 MPH acceleration time at 7.6 seconds while the vehicle sports a top speed of 138 MPH.

Solely on electric power, the A3 reaches a top speed of 81 MPH and can travel a distance of 31 miles. CO2 emission has been decreased and this gives this vehicle an added edge in the market as the taxes will be less, hence enhancing sales. Audi has however not yet confirmed the official launch date of the A3 e-tron although a hybrid based version of the e-tron, based on the MQB platform is expected to be launched relatively soon.

Volkswagen is also set to unveil the Golf hybrid and the vehicle will be based on similar technologies. It is expected that the vehicle will feature the MQB platform however no confirmed reports have come in from the bosses. Detailed reports are expected to arrive post the Geneva Motor Show.
