Audi Q8, The Sporty Variant Of The Future Q7, Confirmed For Production
|   Sunday, December 14, 2014
Audi Q8 will be the future flagship of the brand's SUV portfolio, headline British from Autocar. The model was confirmed in an interview with Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Head of R&D at Audi.

The future Q8 will be developed on the platform that will equip the next generation of the Q7 model scheduled to start in January next year at the Auto Show in Detroit. Its coupe-inspired sibling, called Q8, will debut later and fight in the segment with the BMW X6, Range Rover Sport and Mercedes-Benz MLC.

Audi Q8 will have a more exciting design and will be inspired by the Prologue concept, exhibited at this year's edition of the Auto Show in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the next Q7 is scheduled to start in January 2015 and will be among the last new models launched by Audi, which will follow the line of the previous design because its development was already too advanced when Marc Lichte came to the leadership of the brand's design department. The differences between the Q7 and Q8 will be even greater in the interior: the Q7 will be a seven-seater SUV and Q8 will be inspired by the shape of a coupe.

The future Audi Q8 was a model about which Rupert Stadler discussed with journalists too, but Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg is the first official Audi which confirmed the development of a series version.

"The Q8 will come," said Hackenberg. "It will be something new, following designs established on the Prologue concept. It will be positioned as something more emotional and more sporty than the Q7. The Q7 will be a car for seven people, the Q8 will be more coupe like."

The model development program is under way and the series version is expected to be completed in less than three years. Thanks to the Q8, Audi could achieve sales growth with healthy margins on major markets such as China, Middle East, and the United States. Additional volumes and profits obtained through this would help Audi get closer to the first position in the global rankings of premium segment sales.

The Audi Crosslane concept is one of the models which designers of the brand said will influence the future appearance of Ingosltadt SUVs.
Right now, the basis for the Q8 is the second-generation MLB (modular longitudinal architecture) platform. The structure is part of a bigger family of platforms, whose development is being led by Audi. It will underpin a wide range of high end SUVs, including the new Q7, third-generation Porsche Cayenne, a new secret Cayenne coupe, third-generation Volkswagen Touareg, as well as the recently confirmed Bentley SUV and the Lamborghini Urus.

The new large SUV, which will have a length of over five meters, has a projected price tag going between 63,000 euro, for the entry-level turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 petrol version, and reaching 114,000 euro for the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 RS Q8 flagship.
