Audi Q6, Brand's First Fully Electric SUV, Will Have Range Of 500 Kilometers

The technological promises made by the big carmakers 4-5 years ago is finally beginning to see reality. After Tesla Motors had managed to impose an excellent rhythm regarding the evolution of technology, in terms of electrical autonomy, those at Audi will throw in the game in this autumn a model that promises to raise the excellent numbers in terms of the distance that can be traveled with a "full" battery.

The race is on, now that Audi will partner with Samsung and LG to make an SUV with a range of 500 km.
The South Korean companies Samsung and LG will contribute to accumulator battery technology, enabling the future electric SUV, that is to be launched by Audi, a range of 500 kilometers (310 miles).

Audi is developing an accumulator battery for an electric-powered SUV, based on the latest technologies developed by Korean companies LG Chem and Samsung SDI, which will provide its internal modules. The two strategic partners plan to invest heavily in Europe in automotive battery technology.

There are also plans to provide Audi all components required for production at its factories on the old continent. About the new battery, it is known, according to data provided by Audi that it will give the SUV a pure electric range of 500 km (310 miles).

In an official press release announcing the collaboration between Audi, Samsung and LG in the batteries development area, the German brand announces that the fully electric version of the Q6 SUV, which will be presented as a concept at the Frankfurt Show, will have the ability to scroll through 500 kilometers (310 miles) on a single charge.

However, Audi avoided to say which model name will have that honor, confining itself to convince us that the new batteries will be used in "a pure electric powered SUV." Naturally, the international automotive press jumped to say the Q6 is the name for the future model, and the electric version will be very likely named Q6 e-tron.
"Together with our South Korean development partners, we are bringing production of the latest battery-cell technology to the EU and strengthening European industry with this key technology. This will allow us to supply a technological solution that makes electric cars even more attractive for our customers." declared Dr. Bernd Martens, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Procurement.

Also, it's almost a certainty that an electric Q6 crossover, which will be placed comfortably between Q5 and Q7 is in the making.
It will be built with the latest iteration of MLB architecture that debuted on the new Q7, and is expected to get its appearance of the Prologue concept with which Audi has made the parade last year at the LA Auto Show.

"In early 2018, we will launch a battery-powered sports activity vehicle in the large premium segment with a range of more than 500 kilometers. With our first battery-electric Audi-SUV, we are combining an emission-free drive system with driving pleasure. We will optimally integrate the innovative cell modules developed with LG Chem and Samsung SDI into our vehicle architecture, thus achieving an attractive overall package of sportiness and range." said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi technical development board member.
