Audi Preparing To Launch Compact Crossover Based On TT
|   Saturday, December 06, 2014
The Audi TT Offroad Concept is the third bodywork version of the TT range and is the closest to a production version, headlines Autocar. In an interview with the head of research and development from Audi, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, the crossover model of the TT range will be presented in a series version earlier in the year 2015. The market debut could take place in 2016 if the model will get the green light from the management, which is currently analyzing the chances of success for all concepts presented by the German brand.

The Audi TT Offroad concept foreshadows a compact SUV that would fight in the segment with Range Rover Evoque, Porsche Macan, and BMW X4. The earliest stage of concept saw the model being based on the MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group and its dimensions were similar to those of the new generation Audi TT. On the aesthetic level, the model's grid presents the Audi "Singleframe" and optical blocks with LED matrix, so the version number would easily fall within the future design direction announced by the German brand.

The SUV offer from Audi will include a Q4 in the future which will make an interesting situation for the design, marketing as well as sales departments of the brand. Basically, if the future crossover will be based on the TT series model and will coexist with Q4 in the range, those from Audi will have two models that would address the same compact niche. This SUV is framed between Q3 and Q5 and already exists in the Germans offer.

Both Q4 and crossover version of TT will address the sportier side of the premium compact SUV segment, but the precise classification range or the time of launch is still a mystery, and Audi officials are low on details about their future.

Hackenberg said at the LA auto show that tests were underway to see what the TT offroad concept can do, alongside the TT Shooting Brake and TT Sportback.
"All of the concepts are under analysis. We've done clinics, which have been very positive. They have shown a strong tendency for SUVs, so if we were start with one I'd say there is the strongest chance for the SUV version" said Hackenberg.

At the Beijing motor show in April, the TT offroad was first showed. Then in January, in Detroit, followed the launch of the TT Shooting Brake; after these events we saw the Sportback at the Paris show in October.

"The Audi TT offroad concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family. It will be the peak sporting SUV in its class. We chose to present the Audi TT offroad concept in China, our second domestic market, because it represents the urban mobility of tomorrow: It is sustainable, dynamic, intelligent and connected" said Hackenberg at the offroad concept's unveiling in China.
