Audi Plans on Showcasing the Next Generation Quattro at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013
|   Wednesday, June 26, 2013
Audi is planning to introduce a new model to its Quattro lineup, exactly three decades after the first model featuring the technology was introduced to the market. The Frankfurt Motor Show could prove to be promising for the latest vehicles as it is a formidable platform for auto makers to showcase their products. The next generation Audi Quattro looks like a very strong design and has the potential to do well in the market once it is available fall 2014.

The latest Quattro will be based on the original Quattro technology popular during the 1980s and this has been done to maintain the handling and performance aspects of the original Quattro. The new vehicle is expected to sport a premium price tag, much higher than the previous generation Quattro and will be better than its predecessor in every sense.

The Quattro will be manufactured at Audi's plant at Neckarslum, Germany, which is also the headquarters for Quattro. Audi has not confirmed a production version of this car and insiders consider this a farfetched idea as of the moment. The Quattro four wheel drive is an iconic technology around the world and the company plans on maintaining this reputation with the new vehicle as well.

Although details regarding the specification of the vehicle are hard to come by, a spokesperson has claimed that this vehicle is based on the tested and tried Audi A5 platform. This will help Audi gain production efficiency as well as keep the overall production prices down. However, the Audi Quattro is rumored to be shorter than the A5 and will also sport a shorter ride height.

This vehicle is powered by a 4.0 liter V8 engine designed by Audi displacing close to 600 BHP. The new engine also has cylinder deactivation system and will displace 40 BHP more than the latest unit of the RS6 Avant. This is serious performance and Audi maintains that the Quattro has the ability to handle the amount of power generated. The engine is mated to an automated seven speed transmission system which distributes power evenly.

Torque vectoring ability is offered to all the four wheels due to the additional Torsen slip ring differential. The light weight materials make the Quattro a high performance vehicle and also have the best power to weight ratio in its segment. The Quattro weighs close to 3850 Pounds although Audi is working on ways to reduce the weight by another considerable margin. The Quattro is capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within four seconds while sporting a top speed of 186 MPH.

Straight line performance is at the maximum point and can only be matched by that of the Audi R8 V10. This proves the mettle of this vehicle. The original Audi Quattro was never a beautiful vehicle to look at but was always known for its high performance. Audi plans on changing the equations with the latest vehicle. The latest Quattro is based on the designing elements of the R8 and has the potential to do well in the market.
