Audi plans on rolling out the face lifted Q5
|   Tuesday, November 27, 2012
When Audi launched the Q5 back in 2008, it was one of the best SUVs in class with range topping exterior and interior trims along with massive performance. However, within the past four years, the Q5 has faced stiff competition from upcoming SUVs from Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Honda etc that have threatened to push the Q5 from the top. Audi has therefore planned to the Q5 a much needed facelift and power train upgrade.

A new quadrilateral grille has been placed up front with a hexagonal tail lamp design.
The bumpers have also been modified, although the change is not visible at once. The tail pipe along with a rear diffuser has been installed in place along with new switch gear upgrades. The new Q5 has new parking assistance along with rear parking sensors and Sat Nav and these additional features make it the range topping vehicle in the Q Segment.

The engine is equipped with direct fuel injection with automatic start / stop and forced induction. The 2.0 liter turbo charged diesel and petrol units as well as 3.0 liter V6 engines are available on the Q5 as standard. While the V6 is more powerful, delivering 268 BHP, the 2.0 liter engine produces an excess of just 5 BHP and 59 ft lb than its predecessor. However, the vehicle features fuel efficiency by 17 percent.

Engine vibrations and turbo lag have been considerably reduced although in gear acceleration still feels slow at parts. The dual clutch system is quick and highly responsive and the braking has been considerably improved. The steering is accurate and smooth and the vehicle is available in different drive modes enhancing the driver's confidence in different terrains. The 20 inch alloyed wheels make for a comfortable ride apart from enhancing the external beauty.

Priced at 40,035 Pounds, the Audi Q5 is a great machine to own and drive on the road. The car is high on space and the interior trim level has been enhanced to give it a better appeal. With a top speed of 140 MPH, the Q5 is quick, even for SUV standards and hence cruising is a breeze. The vehicle is capable of accelerating to 60 MPH in 6.5 seconds. The Q5 is larger and quicker than the all new Land Rover Evoque but the aesthetical presence of the vehicles will define the winner in this segment.

Although the Q5 holds a steadier footing in this segment, the Evoque is not far behind and the designers from Audi have to think of a possible way to make the Q5 seem more trustworthy than the land Rover. This is a mammoth task at the moment and as no concrete news is out as of the moment, Audi still has a chance to think of possible ways to attract prospective buyers. However, the Q5 is lighter than all the other vehicles in its class and this gives it an edge over its competitors. The launch date of the Q5 is yet to be formally announced by Audi.
