Audi plans on launching a modified R8
|   Monday, November 26, 2012
Audi is planning on face lifting the R8 in its mid life to enhance its appeal to the buyers. The new R8 sports an enhanced transmission system along with all new head lamps, DRL apart from some minor technical changes and an increase in the price tag. The vehicle however faces no change in its standard power train or drive train features; therefore an increase in performance is unlikely.

The exterior has been face lifted however there are no major changes as such.
The R8 sports a general twin large bore design and hence the new generation models cannot be distinguished as the V8 or the V10, which could formerly have been done with the help of the exhaust bore. The new LED tail lamps also sweep from one end to the other instead of blinking, which was the case with the last generation R8.

The interior also features an upgrade and the use of carbon fiber and aluminum is evident. In fact their usage has been increased. The all new trim level consist of iPod connectivity, Sat Nav, Bluetooth connectivity as well as heated leather seats. But on the overall, the vehicle is the same. Along with an excellent seat position, the interior is quite comfortable and stable with an overall German feel.

The R8 was launched back in 2007 and if not for the upgrades, the vehicle would have been out of production a long time back. However, the Porsche 911 and the Ferrari 458 Italia are both better driving tools. However, the R8 holds its own and people go for the R8 solely due to the German engineering from Audi. However, the 911 does not offer the thrill of driving that it used to and the Ferrari is not available below the 100,000 Pounds.

The Audi R8 is a poised super car and is a great touring vehicle as compared to the rest. The R8 is a hand built car and such precision is actually unseen in hand built super cars. The V8 engine on the R8 smoothly makes 8000 RPM and the vehicle is quite stable even in corners. The driver may feel under steer in low speeds; however the handling is actually quite agile and highly responsive.

Driving the R8 is quite easy and the vehicle being a mid engine one has perfect counter balance and is an unforgiving machine on track. On road, the optimum performance of the R8 cannot be witnessed and the true grit and potential of the vehicle need to be checked on track. The Audi Quattro drive train on the vehicle is quite efficient and the R8 handles like an Audi A3 on track. This efficient handling has been made possible only due to the Quattro technology.

Wheel spin is an obsolete thought and the R8 is one of the most stable vehicles on road. This vehicle provides the maximum value for money below the 100,000 Pounds range and if you are confident with 22 MPG, the R8 should be the perfect pick.
