Audi opens a new production plant at Mexico
|   Friday, May 10, 2013
Audi is a great name in the production of cars. The company has been producing great cars over the years. It has produced the most luxurious cars over the years. The German engineering has been awesome for the cars. It is has been amongst the leaders in the market for many years now. They have their own production house all over the world. Audi was initially a part of Volkswagen but now they have their own identity.

Audi has finally revealed that they are going to open their own production house at Mexico.
The company has despatched $1.3 billion in order to set up this new production centre at Mexico. Volkswagen also has a plant at Mexico that produces the Jetta, Beetle and Golf GTI in the US. The company believes that with this new plant they will be able to provide a lot more cars to the US markets.

The CEO of the company has made it very clear that the plant will be producing crossovers mainly. The plant will specialize in the production of the Q5. He also said that the target was to make sure that every 3rd SUV was an Audi by 2020. This would be a real, big achievement for the company.

The company has sold a lot of light trucks the previous year. The market of light trucks increased by 55% compared to the 1% increase in the other cars. The company knows that the market for light trucks, SUV's and crossovers are increasing at an alarming rate. And the launch of this plant will help a lot in the success of the company.

The plant will be producing 150,000 cars on an annual basis at present but the plant will be upgraded later on to produce 300,000 units later on. The plant is a big one. This plant will enable the shipping of cars to US at a faster rate. The cars can be shipped by railway or by ship. This will take a lot less time compared to shipping cars from Germany.

The Germany plant also produces the Audi A4 and the A5. The company has a wide range of cars. This plant will supply the Q5 all over the world other than China because China already has its own plant producing the Q5. The factory will enhance the sales in the US markets and will enable faster availability of cars. The Q5 now has a delivery period of about 13 days.

The company boss feels that the people in America will not object to the "made in Mexico" tag as long as the car has everything perfect. The quality that Audi has been producing over the years needs to be intact in order to make an impact in the US markets.

Just because the company is opening a production house at Mexico it does not mean that they are closing down the option of having a production centre in US. That option will always be open to the company depending on the needs of the cars, markets and facilities available.
