Audi launches the next generation A8
|   Wednesday, November 21, 2012
Audi has been using four wheel drive technology on all its versions of the A8 till the last generation. However, with the launch of the all new generation of the Audi A8, the company plans to introduce front wheel drive as standard on the A8. The proto type A8 on tests used a 3.0 liter TDI petrol hybrid engine displacing an additional 45 BHP than the Quattro engine.

Starting from 53,685 Pounds, a standard front wheel drive vehicle is available at the cheapest.
However, this vehicle is 45 kg lighter than the Quattro and features an increase in 2.0 seconds in reaching up to 60 MPH. With a decrease in speed at the top end by 10 MPH, this vehicle is not actually a technological innovation.

However, the vehicle does save 3MPG and this is the only good part about this vehicle. The engine needs more tuning and it sounds at pain when accelerated to a potent amount. This needs to be looked into and Audi needs to do this at the earliest. Torque steer is present and on certain occasions this may lead to excess wheel spin. Therefore, a lot of modifications need to be done on this vehicle and this cannot be considered to be one of the best offerings from Audi.

However, the Audi A8 3.0 TDI SE Executive LWB does score on the comfort front and this is one of the highest strung vehicles from Audi. The suspension has been enhanced and the interior trim level on this vehicle is at par with most executive sedan class vehicles. The brakes are of good quality and they work well although the steering is not as good as it should have been. This being an understatement, it is correct to say that the steering is the worst on any Audi in the recent past and controlling the new A8 promises to be a very challenging task.

The weight distribution on the vehicle needs to be worked on. Although these problems come to the forefront only when the vehicle is driven inappropriately. However, on smooth driving, the vehicle is quite efficient and this could be the perfect choice for people who are looking for a budget Audi A8. The vehicle is refined enough for daily use and it provides fuel consumption of 46.3 MPG.

With a top speed of 146 MPG, this vehicle is suited for freeway travel as well. With an overall Co2 emission of 161 g/km, this vehicle is not one of the eco friendly vehicles on road. However, it is better than what most car makers have to offer. The axle of the A8 holds down most of the pressure of the vehicle and with an overall torque production of 295 ft lb @ 1250 – 3500 RPM, this vehicle packs in a decent amount of power. The sales volume of the A8 will speak for itself and the trade analysts are not very sure of high sales. However, Audi is confident and the final outcome remains to be seen.
