Audi Introduces Its First Performance SUV: The Q3 RS
|   Tuesday, February 26, 2013
Between the 7th and 17th of March 2013 the Geneva Motor Show will take place, as you know by now. The 83rd edition of the Swiss motor show, the Geneva Motor Show 2013, held under the auspices of "innovation and respect for the environment", announces a host of environmental news. Also at the preview of the official opening of Geneva 2013 on March 4, the winning Car of the Year Award 2013 in Europe will be decided. This event wants to bring back hope in the European automotive industry, which is hit by a very serious auto crisis.

The people at Ingolstadt officially begin the offensive against performance SUVs from BMW with a new model: RS Q3. The sport version was anticipated since last year, when Audi's presence at the Beijing Exhibition brought a nearly identical concept. Moreover, due to the good reception which it had enjoyed, the serial version does not give up too many aesthetic details.

To individualize the best alternative for performance, Audi has used more aluminum and glossy plastic accessories, an oversized honeycomb grille and a front bar, completely new, with more generous air intakes. The 20-inch wheels make their way to the concept and production model, although customers can opt for a smaller size of 19 inches. The back is dominated by a roof-mounted spoiler, an oval exhaust deflector.

The interior evokes the same sport spirit seats with new, better lateral support. They are covered in leather and Alcantara, the steering wheel too. Aluminum makes its presence felt in the pedals, center console and thresholds.

Another change from the concept is to reduce the engine power of the 2.5-liter TFSI petrol from 350 hp to 306 hp. The five-cylinder engine mounted on the serial version of RS Q3 has a maximum torque of 420 Nm, reached between 1,500 rpm and 5,200 rpm, and is connected to an automatic Stronic 7 speed double-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels via quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

According to the Germans, the compact SUV bearing the RS mark is able to sprint from zero to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km / h, electronically limited, while the theoretically combined fuel consumption is close to 8.8 l/100 km.

To improve maneuverability, the engineers have lowered the ride's height by 25 mm, the battery was mounted in the trunk – for a better weight distribution – and the car is equipped with internally ventilated and perforated brake discs on the front and larger rear discs, which are slowed down by using eight-piston calipers.

Moreover, the electronic stability control (ESC) is available with a sport setting, but can be disabled entirely, and for fast departures from a standstill, the car received a Launch Control system.
The Audi RS Q3 weighs 1730 kg and comes with a number of stylistic touches that distinguish the role of a standard Q3, like the wheels, the brushed aluminum on the roof and on the air diffuser in the rear bumper or the spoiler on the trunk lid.

The Audi RS Q3 prices will start in Germany at 54,600 euros.
