Audi Has Produced 25 Million Engines In Hungary
|   Friday, November 15, 2013
Audi has announced that it has produced 25 million engines at its plant in Gyor, Hungary. The anniversary engine is a 2.0 TFSI developing 272 hp, which will equip an Audi TTS Coupe Competition. The car that will get the anniversary motorization is a particular model, namely a TT with the number 500,000.
Since the new generation of the TT, Audi will also produce this model at its factory in Hungary. The production milestone comes after 20 years since the start of engine production in Gyor, the sixth largest city in the country.

The Gyor plant produces engines for Volkswagen and Audi since 1993. Currently, there are 235 versions of engines in its offer. This offer starts from four-cylinder engines, and moves up to the 12-cylinder engines, delivering between 86 and 570 hp. Approximately 5,400 employees produce more than 8,100 engines every day.

The engines with six and eight V cylinders entered into production at the Audi factory from Hungary in 1997, while diesels with four cylinders went into production at this plant starting with 2000.

"The 25-millionth engine underscores the longstanding success story of engine production at Audi Hungaria. Nearly all engines in Audi models come from Gyor," said Dr. Frank Dreves, Board of Management Member for Production at AUDI. "Audi Hungaria therefore has a special strategic importance within the Audi Group. The company makes a major contribution to our growth strategy".

"Our success is based on the high quality of our engines, our dedicated workforce and continuous technological progress," head of engine production at Audi Hungaria, Achim Heinfling said. "Not only have we proven our worth in the Volkswagen and Audi Group in the past two decades, we are meanwhile the biggest engine producer in the world."

Only a few months ago, Audi Hungaria inaugurated a new plant with a full process chain and then began mass production of the A3 Sedan. Soon, the new Audi A3 Cabriolet and the successors to the Audi TT Coupe and Roadster will likewise be made in Hungary. About 125,000 cars will ride off the production lines in the Gyor plant every year.

"Our decision to establish a production plant in Gyor was absolutely right. Audi Hungaria has developed into a successful company that is of particular importance for the global growth of the Audi brand," said Dr. Frank Dreves. "This agreement confirms our effective, long-standing cooperation with the Hungarian government and opens up new horizons for future shared projects."

"This country has offered excellent conditions as an industrial location. Our company has developed continuously. The technical knowledge, flexibility and motivation of the Hungarian workforce are a solid foundation for future success," continued Thomas Faustmann, Managing Director of Audi Hungaria. "As the biggest investor in the country, our company makes a significant contribution to the development of the Hungarian economy."

The Hungarian plant has been upgraded from its original 240,000 square meters in 1994 to its current dimension of nearly 4 million square meters. This puts Audi Hungaria at the top of the country's manufacturing company list.
