Audi Confirms Plans to Launch the E-tron at Detroit
|   Friday, January 24, 2014
Audi confirms working on a production variant of its e-tron, at the Detroit Motor Show this week. Technical Chief Ulrich Hackenberg says that the bosses are very close to signing this vehicle off for production. An electric supercar was expected from Audi for long, although they had no intentions of taking part in this risky business venture. Tesla is the only major player in the electric supercar business and Audi had not considered it to be commercially viable.

However, all these notions changed when people pleaded for an electric supercar and the bosses at The Volkswagen Group decided to answer their requests. The Research and Development team is currently working on last minute details, while we should get positive announcements within a few months. Production level technical specifications are yet to be revealed, although we expect announcements to be made soon.

The electric drive train is based on a rear wheel platform, while its new engine is capable of displacing a maximum of 376 BHP. However, the biggest revelation about this vehicle is the distance coverage, which Audi claims is 250 Miles on a single refuel. Audi is working on its latest electric and plug in hybrid technology, which they claim, will change the face of automobiles soon.

Audi has however officially announced plans to halt productions of their diesel hybrid power train. Top end technology is expected on all future variants, while the e-tron could officially be their flagship model in terms of technological innovation. A number of projects are currently benched while top officials are working towards ways to launch these in the mass market. We have not been told of new arrivals, although these could be implemented on current models.

Audi's next generation TT Coupe is a vivid example of technological innovations, as this vehicle has seen many generations in technology. Engineers have taken special care while packing the battery on this vehicle, which reduces loss while providing additional range. We will keep you posted on new details as and when they arrive. Come back soon for latest news, updates, reviews and drive test reports of the e-tron.
