Audi, BMW And Mercedes Have Completed Nokia HERE Acquisition
|   Monday, December 21, 2015
As new shareholders of the HERE, Audi AG, BMW Group and Daimler AG will provide strong support for its development. The three premium manufacturers have successfully completed HERE's acquisition, the maps and localization business from Nokia.
Intelligent real-time maps, location-based services that run completely automatically: the future of mobility is a digitized universe - one that can be achieved through HERE's products and services.

First-class maps and a new understanding of location-based services represent the foundation by which HERE continues its successful growth as an open and independent company creating value.
This development will be to the benefit of HERE's hundreds of clients from numerous industries.

The new shareholders and management structures are designed to ensure the independence of HERE, and to allow continued activity without problems to daily routine.
Currently HERE daily feeds their maps with data from over 80,000 sources, and billions of probe points. At the same time, the company is actively involved in connecting millions of cars and their onboard sensors that generate information about the environment of the car.

As you add more data to the HERE platform, the maps, products and services will become better. This brings a huge benefit to all customers, which will lead to increased comfort while traveling, safer roads for everyone, less congestion and cleaner urban areas.

HERE is already playing an important role in the development of autonomous driving, because no automaker can successfully develop this area of future mobility without high precision updated maps.

The generation of these maps is exactly the area where HERE is the leader. Four out of five new cars sold in Europe and North America with included navigation, have first-class digital maps from HERE. In the future, the maps will provide for cars the ability to anticipate road hazards, prepare and adapt driving strategies in a manner that increases driver's confidence.

To do this, HERE will build on its strong points from today and will add new capacities. HERE plans to consolidate their position as market leadership among automotive customers, and expand their business for consumers and companies - through organic growth but also through strategic partnerships and acquisitions.
HERE's objective is to create one of the most important platforms for location in the world, that will combine data on all forms of mobility, and interfaces between everyday life and the world of digital maps.

This long-term strategy is ensured through a new management structure, protected by a Governing Board which will consist of representatives from the new owners and independent figures recognized in the industry.
Audi AG, BMW Group and Daimler AG will not acquire joint control over HERE. That is why, there is a clear separation between their roles of customers, suppliers and investors. Moreover, HERE will remain open to all customers, and will be open to other investors which would create a broader shareholder structure too.

However, to make sure that the unequivocal commitment of HERE to openness and independence is firmly guaranteed, after the successful completion of this investment, the three premium automakers expressed special thanks to the Celsius Capital, headed by Carlos Bhola, for the way it argued from the beginning that idea and for the successful completion of this investment.
