At The Year First Half, BMW Is Number 1 In The World\'s Top Premium Brand
|   Wednesday, July 10, 2013
BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz continue the race for first place in the ranking of global sales in the segment of premium brands. The three German brands have each seen increases compared to the previous year in terms of orders, making all-time record for sales. However, the BMW Group continues to lead the German auto manufacturers on the podium of the premium area, with Audi and Mercedes-Benz following suit at a distance the Bavarian brand.

According to official figures published by the three brands, the first position of the premium ranking is occupied by BMW, with 804,000 cars sold in the first six months of the year.
These sales represent an increase of 8 percent compared to the first half of 2012. The Bavarian brand is the only one that has passed the threshold of 800,000 sold cars. Audi is currently at a distance of about 24,000 units behind, with 780,500 cars sold in the same period (+ 6 percent from last year). The podium is completed by Mercedes-Benz, which reached 694 000 units sold during the period from January to June and also increase with 6 percent.

Auto analysts say this trend will continue in the coming months and that BMW will finish the year in first place due to increased demand on the U.S. and Chinese markets. Besides, the BMW brand is not the only one in the BMW Group which grew in the first half of the year, Mini and Rolls-Royce also contribute to the achievement of sales of 954 500 units worldwide, a new absolute record of the German group.

Although sales of Audi and Mercedes-Benz models did not manage to rise to the level of BMW, both brands have recently announced that the 2020 target will be exceeding the Bavarian brand, and will reach a record in global sales in the premium segment. While the battle between the brands is an interesting one, European employees of the three brands take advantage to the maximum. The rulers of the BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz factories from Europe announced a continuous activity even during the summer holidays to deal with the client needs worldwide.

'BMW has stronger momentum than Audi and Mercedes, that won't change in the second half," said NordLB analyst Frank Schwope. "Design of their cars has improved and they're ahead on fuel-saving technologies."
"Audi will remain the No. 1 challenger to BMW over the next four to five years," he continued. "They're firmly rooted in lucrative markets and benefit greatly from VW resources."

In the US, monthly volumes were up 21 percent to 33,6 percent and sales China grew 44 percent to 34,4. BMW stated the unusually high growth in China this June was because of the model shift from the BMW 3 Series to the long wheel base BMW 3 Series that took place last summer.
BMW is expanding its lineup right now, preparing to launch the i3 EV, their first electric vehicle. The German automaker's number 1 seller in June was the 3 Series which sold 236,215 units.
