Aston Martin Rapide hits the first test drive

At the present moment, the Rapide Shooting Brake from Aston Martin or the Jet 2+2 for that matter seems to be just a one-off project design that has been created for few of the wealthy customers by Bertone.

It is definitely an automobile designed for a chap who fancies his Aston Martins. From the very moment that you fix your eyes on the Shooting Brake Rapide, you would immediately come to know that the styling of the automobile is appropriate.

This piece of machinery from Aston Martin has a look that fits it very naturally. That Aston Martin did not come up with this idea in house is a wonder. A car such as this, packed with features which are of utmost desire is bound to carry a price tag which would be hard, if not impossible for the manufacturers to place on the car as they would struggle to evaluate its excellence.

On the other hand, if somebody had to take a guess at the price of the car then you would think it would not be anything less than £1.5m, if not a penny less. The Aston Martin Rapide uses an engine that dates back to the previous generation's V12 with 470bhp.

Talking of the rear drive chassis, it remains more or less same as on the regular Rapide. In the words of company official Griffiths it was mentioned that they had initially decided to take the automobile apart entirely but ultimately had to draft it back in a form quite similar to the original one.

The company officials figured out a lot of problems on the original conventional design that had to be rectified and done away with. Hence the new design proposed had to make sure of getting rid of all the substantial anomalies although a large portion of the original design had to be drafted back into the new mould planned.

Few examples can be cited to suit the purpose of explanation. The rear haunches had to be lifted considerably up to an extent as the car at the back was sitting a little too low. Griffiths expresses his happiness over what the company has achieved in fielding this piece of machinery that has lived up to the expectations and desires of company officials and the standards of Aston Martin.

The space inside the car is a thing to be talked about. Starting from the driver's seat in front, the cabin has an n extremely spacious and airy as compared to the regular version of the Rapide. But subsequent drawbacks of increasing the cabin space in front follow.

Since the new version is not even a millimetre longer in length when compared to the old version, increasing the space in front means an adjustment to do away with large leg room at the rear. On playing the road, the Aston Martin Rapide Shooting Brakes it plays pretty much as the usual Aston Martin Rapide which in itself is a compliment to reserve.
