Ariel launches the Atom 3.5

Ariel has launched the all new Atom 3.5. Although the name may seem to be a little software oriented, however Ariel does not like changing the number on their vehicles until and unless there is a big power train change which is not the case here. However, the .5 which this vehicle has gained features some major changes in the designing of the Ariel Atom and this has been in the form of the chassis.

The engine and the rear suspension mounts have been tweaked and the frame is hence 15 percent stiffer and torsion rigid than the Ariel Atom 3.
New dampers and springs have been installed on the vehicle and the steering has been enhanced too. However, the biggest change that this vehicle feature is in its steering wheel. The tuned engine also displaces more power.

The supercharged engine on the Ariel Atom displaces a modest 310 BHP @ 8400 RPM although the company was claiming 300 BHP. The tuned 2.0 liter engine is capable of producing 10 percent more power than the Atom 3 and this factor has been played here. The throttle map has been played with and the new engine options available are up to the challenge of making the 3.5 better than the 3 in all respects.

The exterior of the Atom has also been reworked and the biggest differences that a person spots are the long wheelbase, wider body works, new headlamps, repeaters on the side and front wings and the new rear lights. A new LCD dashboard unit has also been placed showing exquisite features such as the current gear position etc. This is a handy set of dials and markers which brings the horizon closer to the people at an alarming speed.

The Ariel Atom is great at high speeds. However the fun of driving fizzes out when the vehicle is driven at low speeds. The throttle response is good but you need to feel the throttle pedal to actually push the car forward. However, although the Atom 3.5 does feature quite a lot of engine upgrades, on actual driving, the vehicle does not feature any faster than the Atom 3.

The Ariel Atom 3.5 features a seven speed transmission system and performance wise, this is pretty much it. The steering however is quite awesome and this is good news for the Atom fans. The Atom 3.5 handles even better than its predecessor due to the addition of the compression rate and the vehicle is more stable and aerodynamic than it is the predecessor.

These improvements on a vehicle which people already thought was perfect are a recommendable job and Ariel is really trying to make the Atom stand out in the crowd. The steering aspect is just more stable and smooth than before and in turn the Ariel Atom 3.5 is a more stable. Featuring a price tag of £38,000, and a top speed of 155 MPH, the Ariel Atom 3.5 is an upgrade worth the price.
