AM-RB 001 - What Happens When Aston Martin And Red Bull Build A Super Car
Aston Martin and Red Bull have joined hands to build the ultimate supercar of the moment. The model will be a revolution, just as the legendary McLaren F1 was considered 20 years ago.
The disclosure of the new AM-RB 001, Aston Martin's supercar concept developed together with Red Bull, did not offer too much technical details, but has caught the imagination of all with fantastic promises. Adrian Newey, by far the most popular designer of Formula 1 at the moment, had a strong say in shaping the supercar.
This beautiful car is even more special as it is built for everyday driving and is now a street legal car. That is why the prototype, although it adopts a simple design is an aerodynamic masterpiece, decorated with accessories that help reduce friction with air perform well at high speeds. The supercar looks like it should not have a floor – its lines are carved in such a way as to allow a perfect flow of air.
There are no details about the engine, but the creators claim that it is a completely new V12 engine, which will have a form of hybridization. This will help when additional resources are needed and when the driver wants to go back. It's really fascinating that the V12 will have a transmission without a reverse gear this step being available exclusively for the electric motor.
Built around a light chassis from carbon fiber, the AM-RB, 001 offers excellent aerodynamic qualities. The car had a team of renowned specialists who were busy making the supercar: Adrian Newey - chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing Team, Marek Reichman - F1 Designer, and David King - head of the creative department and special operations at Aston Martin.
The three form a formidable alliance and their experience gave the world beautiful and charismatic cars, equipped with brilliant technology, operating at maximum efficiency too.
Adrian Newey and his team argue that although it will be a road car, the AM-RB 001 will be as fast as a Formula 1 car, scoring higher than today's super cars: McLaren P1, Ferrari La Ferrari, or Porsche 918 Spyder.
For example: the fastest production model on the Spa circuit is Koenigsegg One: 1, which managed a time of two minutes and 32 seconds. A Formula 1 car managed to perform the same lap in one minute and 52 seconds.
The creators claim that the speed cars competing in the Le Mans at LMP1 class reach will also be achieved with ease. This is because the architecture is truly special and does not even include even a piece of steel. Everything is built from carbon fiber and the total mass will be very low. Aston Martin claims that the report mass/horsepower ratio will be 1/1. Therefore, if the super car will have 1,000 kilograms, the V12 engine will also have 1,000 horsepower.
The interior will accommodate two adults, but the driving position will be similar to that of a race car with the feet positioned slightly higher than the hip line. Even so, Aston Martin and Red Bull claim that the car can be driven every day without requiring a lot from the driver.
AM-RB 001 will officially debut in a series version only in 2018. There will be 99 copies to run on the street, and another 24 approved for track racing. The purchase price will be between 2.3 and 3.5 million euros. Even so, there are currently 375 customers who showed interest in the forthcoming car.
