Alpine Renault Test Mule Spotted at Nurburgring
|   Monday, July 22, 2013
The test mule of the first Alpine sports car from Renault was recently spotted doing the rounds at Nurburgring and this two seated Coupe is waiting to be unveiled fall 2016. Without any permanent work on performance, we have to be content with what we see and hear. This dual seated coupe has been designed along with Caterham although the test mule shares its body with a Lotus.

The test mule is blessed with Ohlin suspension, known for their stiffness and high performance.
This is expected to be carried on to the production model as well and is currently used on the Renaultsport models. However, official word is yet to arrive on their presence in the production model of the Renault Alpine. The Alpine is based on a lightweight space frame aluminum chassis consisting of composite materials as well.

The vehicle is powered by a turbo charged 2.0 liter engine displacing 280 BHP although a turbo charged 1.6 liter engine lifted off the Renaultsport Clio 200 is also expected as optional on the Alpine. The all new suspension is also a worthy enhancement and will definitely boost performance. Caterham is also looking at drive trains from its own stable and engine options from Toyota are also on the cards.

The general weight of the Alpine is expected to be close to 1000 kg and this is a serious competition to the Porsche Cayman. However, the general dynamics of the Alpine is similar to that of the Alfa Romeo 4C. Renault is yet to affirm what the exterior would look like although it is expected that this vehicle will share its ergonomics with that of Alpine 110.

The sports coupe is yet to be christened and performance wise the vehicle should be able to compete efficiently with the likes of the Subaru BRZ Coupe and the Toyota GT86. However, the vehicle should be completely different in its own right and comparing it with another even before official road tests have been conducted, seem to be quite unfair. Aesthetics is also of primary value and the new production car should have plenty of it.
