Alpina B7 Focused On Making BMW M7 Redundant. Can It?
|   Tuesday, February 23, 2016
If you were thinking about how good the BMW M7 sounds, then it would not hurt to throw an eye over the latest product prepared by Alpina. It is called B7 and is based on the 750i version of the new flagship from Bavaria.

The new Alpina B7 exhibits performance which takes by surprise even the fastest versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and Porsche Panamera.
Alpina B7 was always a choice for connoisseurs, for those who wanted a performance limo, with the aura of exclusivity.
However, it was not the fastest or the strongest or sportiest. But the new generation Alpina B7 derived from the new BMW 7 Series seems to jump straight onto the first step of the podium, judging by the figures that describe its performance.

To create a lion's heart for the B7, the Alpina engineers have taken the V8 engine from the new BMW 750i and made changes that have increased power from 450 to 608 hp. Alpina interventions have improved intake efficiency, turbines and cooling system and included the use of components such as Mahle pistons designed to cope with the higher temperatures and pressures of the modified propeller. Thus, the V8 twin turbo develops 608 HP between 5,750 and 6,250 rpm and gives 800 Nm of torque available from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm.

Therefore, the results are amazing for a limo of this size, which weighs 2.11 tons empty. Moreover, the new Alpina B7 is only available in a long wheelbase variant. Even so it sprints from 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 96mph) in just 3.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 km / h. So the Alpina B7 can compete with the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, Audi S8 plus, and Mercedes-AMG S63 4MATIC.

According to BMW configurator, the Bavarians are working on the M760Li with a V12 engine of about 600 hp. So it would seem that BMW let Alpina fight with the V8 sedans, reserving a direct duel with Mercedes-AMG S65 which also has V12 engine with a displacement of six liters and 630 hp. Regardless of the scenario that will be chosen, BMW is forced to make a highly efficient M7, because otherwise they risk being eclipsed the Alpina. Even so, the B7 will be a landmark performance rather than the Mercedes-AMG S65, which reaches 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds a performance that does not seem so special anymore.

The B7 has received Alpina sport exhaust too, with valves that allow the driver to choose the audio experience by switching between Comfort and Sport modes from the Dynamic Driving Control system.

Alpina put emphasis on ensuring an agile behavior for the 5.25 meter long limousine. In addition to all-wheel drive, the B7 takes advantage of the steerable rear wheels of the new BMW 7 Series, as well as the air suspension on both axles, active stabilizer bars, electronically controlled dampers and active Comfort Drive and Road Preview systems. Attached to them we have the Alpina Sport + mode that turns on the sportiest setting for the suspension and lowers the ride height by 20 mm.
