Alfa Romeo Working on New Version of the 4C Spider
|   Sunday, August 11, 2013
The Alfa Romeo Spider will be a sporty car with light weight technology along with the latest engineering and styling procedures aimed at making the vehicle more powerful while enhancing the chassis to ensure that the car remains stable even at high speeds. Expected to be unveiled fall 2015, this engine will be displacing close to 168 BHP while the original work on the car began around the chassis of a Mazda MX5.

This car is near the end of its designing phase and is almost ready for sign off.
The designing has been done by Marco Tencone, the designing head at Maserati and Alfa Romeo and his team in Japan. The latest cars to successfully make it out from Tencone include the Alfa Romeo 4C, Maserati Ghibli and the Quattroporte Coupe.

The original boat tail, which is thought to have been installed by Pininfarina back in the 1960s, has been retained on the car and this gives it its characteristic appeal. The Duettotanta packs in the slender panels of the contemporary body of the vehicle while the body surface has taken months to be designed. Tencone is expected to have taken a similar approach while designing the Alfa Romeo Spider although this cannot be confirmed without official renderings being available.

A retro futuristic look was what Tencone was working on for the Spider and the car turned out to be exactly that thanks to the generalized lines and feel of the vehicle. The Alfa Romeo Spider is a mid engine car with a roadster trim aimed at making it a hardcore ride. The car is also due to be available across showrooms fall 2015 and is hence quite anticipated at the moment.
LED Daytime Running Lights have been added near the head lamps and this gives the car its distinctive appeal. The roadster is a hardcore ride and has an aggressive appeal to it. Even though the generalized dimensions of the vehicle are not available, it is expected to be similar to the Mazda MX5 due to similar platform usage. Use of light weight materials for construction is the primary advantage which this vehicle has over its predecessors and other vehicles in its lineup.

Both these vehicles are rear wheel driven while the general weight is expected to be close to 1100 – 1200 kg. The interior trim will also be shared in order to keep production costs low. Basically both these vehicles look similar from the interior although performance wise they are expected to be different. These are however mere speculations without the actual vehicles being ready for a track test.

The engine block should be modified and this should raise power displacement up a few notches. While the new chassis is 40 percent more torsion rigid it is expected to save both firms close to 60 percent of the cost of production due to the platform sharing. The Alfa Romeo 4C is also a potent project and the company is working intently on it to make sure that it is completed well within time.
