Alfa Romeo To Launch 7 New Models By 2018, Says German Press
|   Wednesday, April 02, 2014
Alfa Romeo will receive seven new models in the coming years, according to Germany's Auto Bild. The Italian brand will benefit from these releases to increase sales and hopefully increase profit significantly.

For Alfa Romeo to achieve the return, industry experts say that their sales should increase five times compared to the results in 2013.
The plan set for the Italian brand includes the launch of a convertible, called Spider, by 2016, which is followed by the sedan and station wagon, Giulia and Alfetta models in 2017, respectively 2018.

While the Giulia model will fight in the premium segment of the middle class, the Alfetta will be the rival of the premium brands from the E segment.

The list of releases from Alfa Romeo, include two crossovers. One model will be a compact SUV, while the second will belong to the D or E segment. The two models will be launched in 2017, respectively in 2018, according to German newspaper. Except the crossover, Alfa Romeo will launch its new models on a new platform with a rear wheel drive.

Te newt architecture will be called Giorgio. Most likely, the MiTo and Giulietta models will not get successors as quickly as they were originally intended, with the possibility that both models will be out of production, without being replaced, at the end of their life cycles.

The Giulia sedan will compete with the BMW 3 Series, while the Alfetta sedan will compete with the Series 5 belonging to the well known German car manufacturer BMW.

Alfa Romeo has sold nearly 100,000 units in 2013, but Chrysler-Fiat Automobiles, the Milan brand's owner, expects sales of 500,000 units per year. Anonymous source within the group did not state to the Germans from Auto Bild a deadline until Alfa Romeo must obtain the expected sales results.

The Chrysler-Fiat Automobiles representatives refused to comment on the information submitted by the Germans, preferring to wait until the unveiling of the brand's new industrial plan, scheduled on May 6 this year.

Reviving the Alfa Romeo brand, which has a history of 104 years, along with the new Maserati luxury models, are key points in the Group's strategy to return to profit in Europe by 2016. Both Alfa Romeo and Maserati models will be produced in Italy, Fiat announced.

Fiat acquired the Alfa Romeo brand in 1986, but failed to revive it despite numerous attempts. The ambitious plan to increase sales up to half a million cars by 2014 was reduced gradually, partly because of the automotive market in Europe was hit by recession, leaving Alfa with a reputation for poor quality and only three models.

However, the convertible version of the Alfa Romeo 4C promises to be one of the most interesting Italian brand models offered in modern history. The recently launched Alfa 4C sports car was very well received, so there still is hope for the Italian brand.

Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne believes that the Alfa brand can deliver a global profile the Fiat brand cannot as well as greater sales volumes compared to the top-end Maserati, however not many share this idea.
