Alfa Romeo SUV Finally Arriving In 2016
|   Thursday, August 07, 2014
The Alfa Romeo SUV is in the works and when it will be launched sometime in 2016 it wants to compete with models like the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan, with a completely new range of engines up to 500 hp. Alfa Romeo is working on two SUVs and plans to launch eight new models by 2018 in order to revitalize the Italian brand.

The Italian sports car manufacturer is expected to offer a midsize model similar to the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 in 2016, considering that it is the sector with the highest growth for premium SUVs and potent engines would provide a viable chance to fight with the Audi SQ5 and Porsche Macan, according to British publication Auto Express.

To ensure that everything goes according to plan, Alfa Romeo developed a new family of engines with four and six cylinder, designed for a new line of models. The flagship petrol V6 turbo engine will develop up to 500 horsepower, while diesel fans will have up to 350 horsepower, eclipsing the Audi SQ5 with only 310 hp.

This model will be the brand's first-ever SUV, coming more than 10 years after Alfa Romeo first showed its Kumal SUV concept at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show.

A Volvo XC90 model's size may later be added in the range. Both SUVs will be underpinned by the new Alfa Romeo architecture, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, which appears to have a 50 : 50 weight distribution, and will offer brand handling characteristics typical of a hot hatch so that it can compete on equal footing with BMW and Jaguar.

Naturally, seeing that is an Alfa model style will be given top priority. Because of this, the company plans to attract customers to its hold in a peculiar way, at least compared with its rivals in Germany, with its low-slung roofline, angular front and bulging arches.

Before these two SUV models, Alfa Romeo will launch a rival to the BMW 3 Series, named Giulia, in late 2015, followed by a rival for the 5 Series.
The Alfa 4C Spider is also expected to go on sale by the end of 2014, while the Alfa Romeo Spider, a joint project with the next generation Mazda MX-5 made in Japan, might be sold under the brands Fiat, or Abarth after Marchionne said that any Alfa model will not be built outside Italy.

To revive the Italian brand, currently facing difficulties, Alfa Romeo's plan includes several new models launching in all segments of the automotive industry.
These models are supposed to range from the so-called B segment to the luxury segment, where competitors like the Mercedes S class and BMW 7 series are going to be present.

Therefore, we will have one model in the B segment, one C segment model, the successor of the Giulietta it seems, three versions of the new Giulia (sedan, station wagon and crossover) representing the D segment, one car in the luxury class, the 169, and the last 3 special models will be the new 4C in the S segment, an SUV which is going to be made with Chrysler, and the new spider.
